I am on Calguns.net and was talking about how I just bought a 7x14 trailer to use when I move. One of the replies in the post was suggested I join this form seeing that I’ll be living in the Carolinas soon.

Awesome sir and jump right in to check out all of our various sections, topics, and offerings...…….lots to do on here and you're welcome to participate.

Welcome to North Carolina. At least the local politics won’t be much different between Charlotte and the Bay Area.

School me on the freest places to live? I am a superintendent for larger commercial and residential buildings, so larger cities need to be close.
Fort Mill is just south of the state line.
The schools in Fort Mill are very good if that is in your and your wife's needs list.

Schools are a must. We are starting our family soon so we will have kids in schools in the next 10 years. Unfortunately my wife wants to go to the university in Charlotte so we wanted to try and get in state tuition.

The university is straight up I-77 from FM.

Live pretty much anywhere outside of Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) and you'll be fine. Just like the rest of the U.S. the big cities are blue and are confused on which bathroom goes to which appendage or lack thereof

Welcome aboard

Like others have mentioned, look just outside Charlotte limits either in one of the adjacent small towns or just over the Mecklenburg County line. That’ll keep you from funding (paying taxes) to what has become a progressive loonie bin. It’s a shame—it’s gone downhill politically in less than ten years after being relatively balanced for a big city.

Many of the small surrounding towns take pride in not being Charlotte, so there’s a noticeable distinction between the two. Even more pronounced in the surrounding counties.

You can still be based in the Charlotte region if you don’t mind a drive.

Welcome aboard and welcome to Charlotte

In your position, needing easy access to the University, I'd be looking in the NE quadrant but not too close to the university. Mint Hill, Midland, Harrisburg, Concord areas, maybe even Indian Trail or Matthews.

Housing near the university is affected in a bad way student tenants and some other factors. I would not buy in that area.
The drive from Fort Mill would be close to an hour in rush traffic.
I'd avoid Huntersville or anything west of town for the same reason. The I-77 corridor is under heavy construction and will become a toll road when it's over.
And, if you do wind up taking this advice you'll have easy access to ranges at PHA and RCWA

10-4. Mint Hills sounds really familiar. I believe that is in our list of potential places. Same with Mathews. Any places on the NE side other than the university I should avoid?

You better hurry up that move.
We are gonna cut Kalifornia loose from the US any day now.
Welcome.

Honestly that is a great idea. There’s been a movement out here attempting to cut the state up into smaller states. It would allow the larger metropolitan areas to stay liberal idiots and the rest of the hard working farmers to not
Be drug down by the liberal policies.

You know what, I just have to say thanks for the warm welcome. You guys have been great. I will definitely have to change my mind set before I come out there and stop being an asshole. Being in California the mad rush, shitty politics, traffic, etc. really has turned me off to being friendly.

I’m looking forward to opening up and meeting more like minded people.

from California to Charlotte is only a slight upgrade in freedom. I suggest outside the beltway, esp since they elected an all Demoncrat City Council partially consisting of activists that took part in the Keith Scott riots.

The traffic and road management in Mecklenburg county has become a farce. They charge extra taxes for rainwater runoff because people were too good at conservation of water in times of drought. The UNCC area has been taken over by Section 8 housing dwellers pushed out of uptown to cheap apartments meant for student housing. It's a cesspool and I work 2 miles from UNCC.

Good luck getting a CHP permit done in the state-mandated timeframe of 90 days.

I live in Cabarrus county which is too close, but we haven't yet lost to the liberal infection that permeates MeckCo. We recently upgraded from a D to an R sheriff, so CHPs should be easy and fast.
