I need to plant some grass. Is this type consider aggressive like Bermuda? Would like something that spreads but (if I can have my cake and eat it to) not be a pita to keep away from the flower beds.

Yeh - it is pretty aggressive. Depends on the blend though. Some will be more aggressive then others.

What blend/type of zoysia did you plant? I seeded my yard at our last house, and plan on doing it to our new place next year.

My neighbors house is up for sale. While it's empty I may or may not be planning on taking some transplant plugs from that zoysia for my yard

very nice. roll around in it yet?
Yes, yes I have...

Nice. I went with a clover, bermuda, dandilion mix.
LOL, i fight sedge and crabgrass daily... We all have our battles. This stuff should choke all infidels by next summer.

Then Zoysia is for you. Not aggressive, slow spreading and Compadre is designed to look like tall fescue and actually blend with it.

I'll plant zoysia seed next June. Your yard is an inspiration.
Thank you, get it from Southern Seeds in Middlesex if possible. They are a HUGE help and have pro grade chems.

Need to plant some out here, but it's got to be drought tolerant.
Not sure if it will do well that far north.

Compadre. It is not at all aggressive compared to Bermuda. If you take care of your flower beds reasonably regularly, no issues.

Looks good.

I'll be seeding my yard this fall as I hate it currently.
Going to start trying to kill all the weeds in the next couple weeks and then start seeding.

What you seeketh is centipede grass. Aka Lazy mans grass. Slow growing, spreads on top with stolons, so it rarely pops up under flower beds, will go over low structure first. Needs little to no fertilizer.

My particular strain has withstood flood and drought. During cold or drought the grass goes dormant, turns brown but doesn't die. Wakes back up with warmth and moisture. Usually can survive a summer with just morning dew in our humid climate. Don't have to water the yard during dry periods to keep it alive, just to make it greener.

They recommend plugs or sod, but I started mine from seed mixed with a little carpet grass. The carpet grass will spread fast and give fast coverage, then the slow growing centipede will eventually take over and choke all the carpet grass out.

My grass is erosion control and something for the dog to do business on ;) lol

But seriously that looks awesome! I would love to have a yard like that but I'm just too lazy :)

With the rain it is really spreading and thickening up. Already lots of the little weeds have been choked out like the little beotches they are.

"Say my name weed!"

"Daddy Zoysia! Daddy Zoysia!"

Do you have to use an edger to keep it from taking over everything?

No, it has not been an issue. I run the trimmer vertically maybe every other week along the flower beds and it is fine. It is almost like it has no interest in going in among the day lillies and yarrow LOL.

Now the bermuda in the back yard is a struggle to keep out of the beds. I spray those borders with roundup every week. It is not an aggressive grass at all compared to bermuda but it does spread like all warm season grasses. It has really begun to fill in all the little holes that were there since the initial seeding. I expect a nice thick carpet of sod by the middle of next summer.

I'm slowly plugging an acre with Zeon Zoysia, this tool's the ticket. Made near Charlotte, call them and you usually can get a better deal, I bought four. There's a farm in SC that has the Zeon for 1/2 of anything else I found.

Do any of these do well in a pretty shady area or are they full sun?
