Most of the major manufacturers (Leatherman, Gerber, SOG, Victorinox) make good stuff. The reason I like my Leatherman so much is that it has the exact features I want with nothing I don't, it is really compact and doesn't get in my way, and it has an actual Phillips head instead of the flattened out psuedo-phillips.Ok, now all this talk about multi tools has me shopping for one. Gerber or Leatherman? Why? Warranty? Customer service? Never owned one. Looks like they come well equipped, some stuff I may not use. I dunno. Open to suggestions. Perhaps there is a vender here I can support?
Let me know.@Coltdefender1911 I've bought several Leatherman in the last week or so, I actually have 3 used ones on the way now that I've gotten good deals on. I won't keep them all and will be posting at least one, maybe two in the classifieds. Pretty sure they'll be a Wingman and maybe a Wave available.

Juice S2 is the way to go. Had one on my keychain for probably 12 years? Hard to say. It has all the basics including a philips, and no junk (like a corkscrew).I've kept a Leatherman Juice S2 on me for several years now. Lost the original I had and bought a replacement, then I broke it and Leatherman replaced it.
@HMP have you looked at the Leatherman Leap? It's supposed to be a kid's tool but has gotten a lot of attention from adults as well. About the same size as the Juice but with a heavier set of pliers. Also it ships without the knife blade in it so that it can added when the adult feels the kid is ready. It shipping knifeless made me think it may fit some of your needs.
I like the Crucial for what it is. The knife blade is like a razor on mine.Found a good deal on a used Gerber Crucial and it's on the way. I like that size of tool for pocket carry.
One of the Leatherman Waves I picked up is now in the classifieds. Great tool, probably the most solid multi tool I've handled, just don't need two of em.
Yours looks new, mine shows some wear and tear, LOL. I have a Dime just like yours, too.I’m glad other people like the Crucial, I was beginning to think i was the only person who carried one
Mines about a year old. It’s starting to show some wear. I got mine after seeing it on anotherforum and thinking it was “The Answer”. I use it mostly at work. My Dime sees way more use...it’s just so handy!Yours looks new, mine shows some wear and tear, LOL. I have a Dime just like yours, too.
@HMP @wsfiredude The Fuse I bought I got for $20 shipped. When it arrived the knife blade was snapped off and the seller refunded $10 back to me. The knife would be the least used tool on it for me, any advice y'all can give me on taking it apart? Those knurled bolts look like they could be a pain.
You can send it to me and I can put a knife, file, or saw blade on there for you (or anything, really). That's awesome.....I'm gonna send you a private message so we can work things out. Thank youYou can send it to me and I can put a knife, file, or saw blade on there for you (or anything, really). I've been configuring Leatherman tools for a few years now.
Really though, if you want to do it, you need to put a soldering iron on the index screw long enough to heat up the red thread locker underneath, then use a pair of vice grips one one side and some engineering pliers on the other. A lighter or torch works too (just a few seconds, obviously), but they Fuse has those nylon liners that will melt.
Also a guy on Multitool .com that makes indexed wrenches, but hey are a bit pricey and I stripped mine a few tools in (they are printed metal, not terribly hard or sturdy)
I haven't used their warranty, but from what I hear Leatherman will fix it with no questions asked. You'll prob need something else while you're waiting but for the price of shipping that's hard to beat!!Well, I tried to open a cotter pin the other night at work messing with a salt spreader. Broke my skeletool. I guess I should’ve known better. Lookin for a replacement now
Just wanted to add I was offering this for free, an offer extended to all members - didn't want mods to think I was trying to profit here.
Very kind gestures from both of you. Thanks.Just posted a Gerber Crucial with strap cutter in the classifieds for anyone that may be interested....... Also I have been the recipient of some CFF love and I will be paying it forward here in the next week or so.
There will be a Leatherman Kick multi tool being posted in the free classifieds as soon as I have it in my possession. Leatherman makes a quality, American made, product and from what I understand they back their product with a no questions asked warranty.
I do ask that anyone claiming this tool to not currently have a quality EDC multi tool and hope that it will be part of their EDC gear going forward. Anyone that wishes to be tagged whenever the post is made let me know and I'll try my best to do so.
The members here at CFF continue to amaze me with their knowledge, kindness, and generosity.
My Crucial has the carabiner clip instead of the strap cutter. I guess either one would have it's place. I haven't used the carabiner and doubt I'd ever use the strap cutter. Otherwise, it is a very handy tool and is a good size for most applications. Someone will get a nice one when they buy yours. Good luck with the sale.Just posted a Gerber Crucial with strap cutter in the classifieds for anyone that may be interested.......
