Yeah they can be obnoxious. I find the battle comp to be less obnoxious than any of the three chamber directional brakes

I shot it side by side with my battle comp equipped rifle. The battle comp is much more tolerable if your next to it.

First time I really used a muzzle brake, I bought a Miculek off Wahoo and he was kind enough to deliver it. Was several years ago and I had very little experience with them.
First time I shot it was off a bench. Felt like someone was smacking me in the head with a 2x4! Man I hated it. Sold it to Booger so he would ruin his hearing instead of mine!

I soon got used to them and realized when I started more practical shooting type stuff that they weren't as bad if you weren't near a table or barriers, and that good ear pro was key. Now I generally use foam plugs under my muffs.

Now I have two rifles with them and one is a 12.5" SBR. That will clear a room quickly! But I only use it for matches and wouldn't dare use it at a range where others were trying to shoot.

But it is the price you pay for a flat and soft shooting rifle. In competition you want every little bit of recoil reduction you can possibly get, for the most part, in my opinion.

It works as advertised. Keeps the muzzle down and follow up shots are a breeze. But wow. I ended up next to a guy doing bullseye with a suppressed .22. I apologized like 10 times.

Yeah, I try to avoid lining up at a range with them, lol. But the only time I am ever on a line like that is to zero. Luckily at my club there's nobody around during the week!

Under metal roofs and off a bench: very very very loud.

I run flash hider QD mounts on all mine. I don't shoot unsuppressed much, but rifles like my 10.5" 5.56 and 12" 6.8 are bad enough with the FH.

Took my Beowulf to an indoor range when I first got it just to see what it was like. Only lane open was the one next to the cinderblock wall. Loads of fun, since it's equipped with this:

I dont normally use the range i was at, but i needed 100 yards with a rest to zero a burris ar 332 on the offensive rifle in question.

Lol my competition Ar has a comp. And it is loud but it's for competition. My modified mosin has a muzzle brake on it. Really helps with the recoil but good help you if you are near me when I shoot it! Lol I have ran several people off at the range with it.

One time I was shooting it off hand and one of the other guys was nice enough to let me share the bench with him( they can take 2 people). I warned him several times about the blast and noise but he said it was ok. After 3 rounds he got up from the table and waited till I was done.... I felt bad but I let him shoot it and he was happy.

I have a ported break like this on one of my AKs. Kills recoil but wicked concussion and noise. If I had to use it in a gunfight I am assuming my hearing would be wrecked. - Probably worse on an AR with the velocity.

Surefire Pro on mine. In conjunction with a mid length gas system and the right buffer I have minimal muzzle movement.
