North South Skirmish Association 2022 Fall Nationals. We had a great time and competed in everything but Mortars. While we didn't win anything, serious good fun was had and we didn't embarrass ourselves either by finishing in the top third of each small arms category. Weather was typical Shenandoah Valley ranging from overcast to clear with crisp mornings and perfect conditions for the smoke to hang.

As always, the Fog of War pays a visit to Ft Shenandoah. This is the Sunday Musket match, 1st relay from Position 18 looking down towards Position 65

I was Line Judge for Relay 1. My job in that position is to monitor time and target scoring. During the shooting, I keep time and watch the target array.

Scoring is fine but Safety is paramount. Here my oldest son is checking clear each competitor's arm before declaring the position cold. I'm waiting for him to finish with the team commander before conferring about the score.

My son and I are getting ready to open fire at the Smoothbore match. We were Relay 3. I'm shooting a 1842 Macon 69cal and he's shooting an original 1835 Potsdam in 71cal.

Since my son flew in from Kansas to compete with us, he needed some trigger time to get acclimated to the arms we shoot. Here I'm observing the 50yd array for his shots.

He's still got it. The carbine is a 1863 Sharps 54cal.

There are quite a few teams in the N-SSA with grandfather/father/son combinations. My father took this picture of us relaxing prior to the artillery match. My son manned Position 2 on the howitzer and did most of the in and out the bore work. I was on Position 4 and employed the thumbstall and did "pick and prime" for final preparation to fire the howitzer. And yes, this wasn't any reenactment blank firing, we shot live rounds for score.

And our Musket team for Fall 2022. Left is my dad (89yo), my son, Joe C in the back, myself, Mike B (team commander) in the back, Keith C, Jack R in the back, and Randal S on the right end.

Looks like a ton of fun! Reminds me of hanging out with my dad at the Sgt. York shoots.
