Bought a 96 ranger xlt from an older couple at work. Dash shows 149k but the worm gear is broke. They said it has less than 170k miles. Air doesn't blow cold but the interior is pretty nice. Drives great. 4wd works, has power locks and windows.... Couldn't pass it up.

Got it tagged today and 2 new tires on the front to match the back. With an alignment it cost me $319. Sold the subwoofer and amp that came in it to my wives Co worker for $100. So I've got $719 in the pick up.

Got it home, checked the fluids, oil is a little low (no leaks) and dirty, and the tranny fluid is low and black. Looked at the tranny pan, it's leaking. Going to put a new fuel filter in, change the oil, put a new tranny pan on with a drain plug and put a new filter/fluid in it. Should be good to go then. Can't believe I got this thing dirt cheap!

Congrats, looks like you got a deal.

three liter?

Plans for it, or just for a daily etc?

Im an idiot, I dont know why I was thinking it was a 3 liter 6.

Probably because that engine was installed way more often than the 4.0.

3.0, also known as 3.slow, I know because I used to own one. Actually owned a 4.0 before the 3.0, 4.0 is the way to go.

.

Damn. I've been looking for, something just like that.

If you wanna triple your money, let me know!

Well that makes me feel better. Was thinking they only offered the 2.3 or 2.4 and the 3.0, didnt know about the 4

Nice deal. Even though it was the 3l v6 I miss mine.

Nice deal!

I have a very similar deal coming my way next month on a 03 s10 4x4 with 96k on it. Being near the beach it has plenty of surface rust but it will be a beach truck any way.

I’d love to find a deal like that to run errands in and drive during hunting season. Great find!

Man I want an extended cab small truck for a range truck. I'd like to buy JohnGalt' truck, but I'm over three hours away, and don't know anyone in Raleigh that could take a look at it for me before making the all day excursion, lol. Congrats on the deal OP. That thing looks good.

Put half a tank of gas in it, drove down the road to my parents and we all smelled gas but u didn't see from where. When I got home I got under it and noticed the side if the gas tank was wet. Filler next I'm guessing. $50 and bed removal. Had to do the same thing on my 96 f150

That's a heck of a deal.

So.... Hoping this is the cause or the check engine light. Pulled the bed today and saw the filler neck in this condition. I suspected it was bad anyways. New one coming Tuesday.

Separated at the gas cap.

And completely broke off from the tank. Only the breather hose was left in the tank.

Rangers gas filler neck syndrome aka they all do that. Easiest way to fix it is to get a diesel truck radiator hose....but I can't remember the truck. Much cheaper and durable than the factory filler neck

That's a steal for $500. FWIW, I have the same truck with the 4.0 engine and 401k miles on the original drivetrain. You'll want to get rid of those automatic hubs on the front, they WILL fail and probably when you need them. Switch to manuals and you're good to go.
