My buddy ordered a Kinetic Development Group billet lower. Here’s what they sent

It came from a company near and dear to me. No, that’s not Battleworn cerakote or a blem. There’s no way that happened during transit either. It also doesn’t have the upper/lower tensioning screw. Wow
 
Is that considered an unfinished model. Expecting to be cerakoted or an ion bond?
 
They saved you the trouble of attaching the lower to your trailer hitch and dragging it around for a few miles to achieve that "battlewarn"* effect.

* For those who get the reference from a few years ago.
 
I want to say that looks used but I don't see any wear at all to the finish where moving parts might wear on it.
 
Did he refuse to take possession at the receiving FFL and make arrangements for return?
 
That does look like it was intentionally distressed to look battleworn. Not doubting you or your buddy at all, but I wonder if they sent him the wrong one. I can't imagine that lower getting that way accidentally.

He called the shipper while standing at the FFLs counter (might be slightly visible in the pics but not obvious what it was) and got an RMA on the spot.

Yeah it looked like the photo was taken on a gun shop counter. I was hoping that meant he was able to return it.
 
The good news is....

It's hard to tell without having it in hand and seeking it, but that sticker looks brand new.

I was trying to be funny saying that they went to the bad left over bin to fill the group order kind of like how people joke that if you order a well done steak, you are going to get the worst piece of shoe leather meat in the freezer.
 
But was this even a group buy?
 
I was looking at buying from them, but glad I didn't. Not saying they all look like that, but if that can come by QC, what else can?
 
I would be highly upset!

I have a Rainier upper. Bought it on sale for $50 which was cheap for a slick side at the time. Great piece and unlike the subject of the op the finish is excellent. Sounds like their customer service is as good as their product.
