I finally got to go shoot my long range Ar today. Not far just 100yds. The build

Anderson lower
20" 1/8 twist 223 Wylde ballistic advantage barrel ( @JBoyette )
JMT saber trigger
UTG pro 13" handguard
PSA full auto BCG
Magpul furniture
ATM it has a Hawke 4x12x50 scope

I was shooting Hornady black 75gr ammo.

Had a few issues. The roll pin that holds the ejector in place walked out causing problems....

Using a heavy buffer (4.6 oz) the BCG wouldn't go all the way back going to change it out for a normal carbine ( barrel has a rifle length tube).

Besides that the rifle shot great! Love it just a few bugs to work out.

Big shout out to @JBoyette for all his help. He went back and forth with me for several days answered all my questions. Ordered the barrel through him at a great price. I highly recommend him!! :)

Rifle

Five shot group

2 shot sighting in

Question. I'm going to replace the roll pin that walked out on me with a new one. Looks like the size is 1/16 x 3/8". Is it normal to have one walk out like that? I haven't ever had it happen before.

I've had the ejector retainer pin out before, never heard of one walking.
The question is whether the pin is out of spec or the bore in the bolt.
You can get a pin pretty cheap from Brownells, generally roll pins can be spread a little, or you can try the hardware store. I'm cheap, I'd try to save it, but I'd slap one of my spare bolts in if I couldn't, might be worth sending an email to the manufacturer.

Got a replacement from work :) good idea about email the manufacturer.

That trigger is awesome. I purchased it when it first came out. I believe it was about 80$ back then.

@JBoyette I replaced the roll pin but it is very easy to remove. I can push it out with the punch. Should I get a new spring or is the bolt out of spec?

I got in touch with PSA today. Took 30min on the phone but I got a live person :) the lady was very nice and helpful. They sent me a shipping label and said it should take about 10 business days to get my new BCG. I will ship it tomorrow. We shall see! Lol

But I will still be buying another BCG for the rifle. I will use the PSA ( after I see if it works) as a spare.

I got my new scope in and mounted, a athlon optics Argos 6x24x50. It's very nice! @hlpressley

I think I figured out why it was having issues feeding ( the BCG wouldn't go all the way back). Around the gas tube where it goes into the gas block was black from where it was not sealing correctly. I ordered a new gas block and tube as I messed up the gas tube trying to remove it... Lol one step at a time.

And I have a few more box's of ammo coming, more Hornady steel match 75gr and a few boxs of fiocchi?? With 77gr SMK.

Sorry to hear about the few issues but sometimes that goes with building your own rifle, It's looks like a good shooter. Have you weighed it?

Sorry no weight yet.

Man Primary arms ships stupid fast! Lol I ordered the new gas block and tube sat and got them today! Lol now I'm just waiting on the new BCG to come in from PSA that shipped today.

@JBoyette
Ok guys I got the new gas block and tube installed. And I got my new BCG from PSA and it looks good. Put it all together. She is still a single shot rifle. Ejects the spent brass but doesn't go back far enough to grab a new round from the mag. I'm running a carbine stock with a standard spring and 3.0oz buffer. I see alittle black around the gas tube after 40 rounds is this normal?

Also twice she bump fired on me when I was shooting from the shoulder but doesn't do it from a bench or prone as far as I can tell.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Here's a bad pic of the gas tube...

I think your conclusions are not sorted correctly.

In order to "bump fire" it has to feed.
One of the complaints is the rifle extracts, ejects, cocks, does not "feed"...?

The leaking gastube is typical of most home builds. It's hard to find any two brands that hold the same level of Torrance, even when they say they do. But I have a few that leak like crazy and run great.

This is what I would do.

  • Study the 8 steps of cycle. Fully understand them
  • Check buffer spring length to other similar guns in inventory
  • Perform a level 20 gas ring inspection
  • Change ammunition and test for cycling. 5.56 and .223

@JBoyette thanks for the reply.

What is a level 20 check?

All my ARs have carbine spring tubes so any of them I can compare with correct?

I will see if I have any actual 556.

The bump fire only happened twice. Hasn't happened again after 100 rounds. The BCG seems it is not going back all the way like it's short stroking.

Also should there be a gap in between the gas block and the shoulder on the barrel? I have read that some recommend a .025" gap. Mine has no gap.

Definitely make sure you have the gas block hole lined up with the gas port, or it will choke the gas and you will see exactly what is happening now.

It should seat against the shoulder on a BA barrel, but I would carefully measure. I then use loctite around the whole gasblock before I torque the bolts. Edit: obviously between GB and barrel surface

I think those barrels have a pretty small gas port to begin with, so you wouldn't want to interrupt that gas flow at all, unless intentionally with an adjustable block. Just throwing out my opinion.

I checked the alignment of the block and it's good. The set screws have red lock tight on them.

I compared the buffer spring that was in it with 2 others I have. The one that was in it was 1" longer than the other 2. So I changed it out for one of them.( All new)

I tested again today. She fired and extracted all rounds but she is firing 2 rounds with almost every pull of the trigger. I'm running a JMT saber trigger( with a cheap muzzle brake). I'm at a loss as what to do next.

Sounds like a separate trigger issue? Got anything else you can drop in?

Also, could be firing pin problem. Could possibly be slam firing second round. Hard to tell without feeling/watching it.
My best non-expert guesses!

I think there might be NFA legalities involved so I would be very careful about shooting it until you have it handled.

I will swap out the ALG defense trigger out of my comp ar tonight and see what happens.

The JMT saber trigger passes all the safety test. I can not get it to do anything weird. I will measure the firing pin too to see if it's out of spec. Thanks

Ok level 20.

In the armor world you have level 10 operation inspection

Level 20 is the next step above a base inspection

So look into military level 20 manuals on Google for the M16

Trigger double shots.

Always, always look to the trigger first I would see of the disconnecor spring is missing, up side down or the tooth is warn

It's the trigger. I put the long range upper on my competition Ar lower that has a ALG defense trigger. Worked perfectly. Now to see if they will replace the bad trigger.... Lol

I bet they replace it. Especially as it is unsafe. Didn't you get it at Rainier?

No. A different site I buy small parts from for cheap. I needed a trigger and heard good things so I added it to the cart when I bought a lpk.

JMT also has a facebook page. I bet they will replace it.

@NKD

I got a rra national match varmint 2 stage in the mail today from a forum member on here ( for a great deal imo). I really like it too! Breaks very clean at 3.5lbs. put 50 rounds of cheap steel cased monarch and she ran just fine!! No issues of any kind. I should be going to Leeds rifle range tomorrow after church and see how she does with some more rounds on paper. I'm a Happy camper :) :) :)
