Sad to say, but these days with some eye issues I can't shoot as much big bore as I used to at one time. I am invested pretty heavy in 308 Winchester because of several different types of rifles. I consider 308 caliber to be a small medium bore. My other .308 caliber rifles include of course the tiny 300 BLK, 7.62X40, a few 30/30s laying around, and a few 300 Winchesters.

I have consolidated all these to shoot one particular bullet that will do anything that I will ever do with a .308 caliber rifle, the 100 gr FB Raptor from Cutting Edge. If I do something larger then it won't be with .308 caliber. The 100 FB Raptor is extreme on anything up to Black Bear. I don't hunt deer, but it is absolutely DRT on deer/pigs.

And all .308 calibers are easy on my eyes.

Depending on barrel length and rifle in 308 Winchester I run the 100 Raptor with one load with RL 7. It runs anything from 3000 fps in 16 inches to 3300 fps in 26 inches.

I love WOOD. I love Winchester M70s. Winchester in the last couple of years put out their Super Grade and their Featherweight rifles sporting damn nice Maple Stocks. I like Maple too. At or around $1200 I thought they were a steal so I ended up with a Featherweight and a Super Grade, both in 308 Winchester, and both Maple. The FW came with 22 inches of barrel, the Super Grade with 24 inches. I immediately sent them to Brian at SSK and had both chopped to a proper 18 inches. The stock on the FW was a tiny bit longer, rifle would have maybe looked a bit better at 19. But currently both are 18 inches and run the Raptor load at 3100 and change..........

On the indoor range (I rarely shoot outdoors--I like heat/air con) at 50 yards both shoot good as I can see or probably better........... They turned out pretty spiffy, here they are................

Just beautiful!

Yep, Beautiful !

I have a Win 670 in Maple. early 70' vintage.
but it's only a itty bitty .243

Thanks Geezer....... Yeah, they turned out well...... I plan on taking the Super Grade to South Africa when we next visit. No serious hunting, just some plinking around. But I suppose now that will be next year. Got a herd of buffalo I want to look at over there. Figured to take the little Winchester and plink some monkeys or something.......

I also have a pile of those Winchester Ultimate stocks. I sent 50 or more to have finished in different patterns. These are extremely light weight stocks and rather handy.... Here is one of the Winchesters in a Snow pattern stock.....

When I picked the Super Grade from several that was on GunBroker, I picked it because I liked the stock better than any of the others. When it arrived, during transport, something jammed thru the box and gouged out a spot in the stock. Man was I pissed. But, I wanted this stick of wood, so I asked Wes at Accurate Innovations if he could help me plug the thing with something, sent the stock, and Wes smoothed it over for me and filled it. Wes was not happy with it, but I was very well pleased and don't have a problem.............Add character I reckon............

whoa, whoa..... :(

Well, what else can I say...... Hey, I think anything under 416 ain't much good for anything but rats and such anyway........... your 243 don't have a chance..........LOL............

Michael, if you decide that you want to improve the repair on that stock it is possible.

Remove the action and then cut a tapered hole around the damage, small end where the damage is. When you put the plug back in it will protrude from the stock by the width of the saw kerf. Glue it in and sand it flush.

Great looking guns btw.

Thanks Jim.....

The FW lives up to its name, it is a full pound lighter than the Super Grade gun...........
