I have decided to do another AR pistol build but pay homage to the MK18. I wanted to pay homage to it but not do a "clone". Lower receiver was provided and engraved by Orion-Arms. They do actual engraving and not laser engraving. I think it turned out awesome. I plan on doing it as a budget build and putting it on a PSA 10.5 upper with a Shockwave brace and buffer tube. I will add to the post as I continue the build process.

What do you guys think? The one with the word pistol is mine the other pic is an original.

Why is actual engraving better than laser engraving? Looks like a neat project though. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

In my opinion I prefer the actual engraving. It is usually deeper and the laser engraving looks almost like a decal. Also on specific things like SBR, NFA items the engravings have to be a certain depth per ATF regs.

For reference here is a laser engraved version from arfcom. I just don't like the laser version as good.

FYI I have seen a laser engraver cut through product depends on how the laser is set up. I have plenty of NFA items laser engraved by @Unknownpro and they are plenty deep. And "laser" perfect! Otherwise your project looks neat can't wait to see it finished.

Yeah I like the gun. Have to disagree with the thoughts on the laser though. Make sure to post up more pics of the gun as it's finished

Yea, I am aware a laser can cut deep. I was trying to say I prefer the actual engravings because it is more true to what the manufactures use and looks more like roll mark style marks. I cant wait to finish the build I think it will be a neat project for sure.

I think the project is awesome and the engraving does look very good. However if you do decide you want something laser engraved or cnc engraved let me know. I believe I am the only vendor that offers both options and the turn around time on something like this would be "while you wait". Meaning you would be 2 foot from me while we both run the engraving.

Going through all the trouble of the build but not spending the extra $200 to SBR it. I don't understand that part of it, but I love the build.

To be honest with the ATF's recent decision about arm braces and the new braces on the market I don't see much need to spend the extra $200 and wait up to 12 months. Now building a suppressor on a form 1 or something like that is a different story. Hopefully we can chip away with the silly NFA in the near future. ;)

Out of all these Mk18 Mod 0 I had down range, only one had the Anchor, one had a M16A1 lower and all others M4A1 lowers.

I hear ya. As someone who has an AR pistol with the Shockwave blade as well as a CZ scorpion SBR, I still think there is a benefit to the SBR process on the right guns. The KAK is not the best to shoulder and really isn't adjustable on the fly.
