NASCAR bans Confederate flag at events, race tracks

Banning the Stars and Bars, I kind of get it. Want to make anyone feel welcome to spend money.

Petty putting BLM on his car for Wallace. Can't have any alcohol sponsors because Richard's Mother said so. But a domestic terrorist organization passes muster. Maybe he can get the PLO as an associate sponsor too.

Then came NASCAR saying they were going to be fine with the whole making allowances kneeling during the anthem deal. Straws and camels. This camel will be finding something else to do and spitting on nascrap.

Next thing you know instead of autograph sessions with the drivers, the drivers will be washing the feet of the offended.

The truth is,I bet Richard Petty is laughing all the way to the bank .......he has the ONLY driver of colour for anyone to invest in.

NASCAR used to be fun. I remember walking the fence from the far side of Charlotte not three feet from the cars going by; drunk off my ass, they were just a brown blur. Those were the days... It's gay now.

That is Homophobia.....

Drove by the North Wilkesboro track today going to Blowing Rock for the day with my family. Hurts my heart to see trees growing under the bleachers of what once was a great track that helped make the old NASCAR great. In my opinion, the France family that took over after Big Bill died and Bruton Smith have ruined NASCAR.

NASCAR bans Confederate flag at events, race tracks
NASCAR will no longer allow the Confederate battle flag to fly at its events and race tracks following nationwide protests against racial inequality in the wake of George Floydā€™s death, the company said Wednesday.

The decision came after Bubba Watson, the NASCAR Cup Series' only black driver, and others called on the stock car circuit to ban the flag. The sight of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events was a divisive topic among fans in recent years, with critics arguing it is a symbol of slavery and racial oppression.

ā€œThe presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry,ā€ NASCAR said in a statement. ā€œBringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties.ā€

NASCAR President Steve Phelps pledged last Sunday that the stock car circuit would take steps to combat racial injustice. Wallace was set to run his No. 43 car with a ā€œBlack Lives Matterā€ paint scheme at a race Wednesday night at Martinsville Speedway.

The premier stock car circuit has considered banning the flag in the past. Former chairman Brian France sought to ban the symbol in 2015, only to reverse course after pushback from fans.

What's "NASCAR?" The only sport I bother with any more is college football, and that is rapidly joining the politicized, theater like nonsense to which I have relegated the other cultural slopbucket items. I had rather watch a local little league baseball game. Less scripted, and definitely more conducive to the virtues of team effort, hard work, how to handle crushing disappointments, and sportsmanship.

I am just telling you. When you WALK AWAY from the poison, rather than stay and complain about it, you feel liberated in a way I simply cannot express.

I find it interesting that society thinks you are crazy. YEARS ago, when I threw out my TV, a really hip trendy guy asked me what I watched. I said I didn't have a TV. He was SHOCKED and said "man, what do you DO with your time?" I sort of stuttered and mumbled something about reading, I think. Today, I would say "I HAVE A LIFE THAT I ACTUALLY LIVE, RATHER THAN WATCHING SOMETHING FAKE THAT IS MADE UP."..... but I didn't want to return hostility with hostility, so I just kind of slunk off. Literally every thing in our society is caked with death and oozes death.

NASCAR is just one more example of a sport that was grand in its day, which has become slick, corporatized, propaganda laden and boring, full of vapid celebrities who repeat the same boring crap and have fortune 500 companies pouring their money in.

Talladega (less than 50 miles from where I grew up) used to be a cool, interesting, place for really wild outdoor parties, while watching interesting figures race interesting cars. I loved the place. I have no interest at all in it now. Spic and span, barbie doll drivers, full of money and scripted responses, idiot reporters (with scorn for the event they cover, mostly)......

I just let them drink poison if they want, and if I watch racing, I try to find a local dirt track (though admittedly that has been a while, too).

. Seems to me it should be up to the individual to have the skill to "accomplish" something themselves.

I had this conversation... " BLM is for stopping the oppression of black people "

What the hell are you talking about ??... Have you not see the jack hole Black President of the United States ?
He's not a jack hole because he's black, he's a jack hole because he's a jack hole.
What about the black Supreme Court justices? Lawyers? , LEOs ? , entrepreneurs ? , businessmen?
Race car drivers? Barbers? Resturant Owners? Realtors selling million dollar homes? Geologists ?
Astronauts? Firemen? Doctors?

Tell me again how they are oppressed? .....

It was primarily about slavery and primarily state rights. Can't have one without the other
Slavery was the powder keg that sparked it. It was not the "primary reason" and such silly talk should be banned from public discourse LONG before a Confederate flag. All you have to do is read the proposals of Calhoun for decades before the war and the issues where secession was threatened to put an end to such foolish talk. Besides, if it were the primary reason, the prosecutors of the war would have banned slavery in the states over which they had dominion immediately. Slavery was legal in Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri throughout most of the war, LONG after the Emancipation Proclamation, which did nothing, in fact, but create theater. In fact Ulysses S Grant had slaves as he prosecuted his "total war" on the South, and NEVER freed them, even after the end of the war. It took the 13th amendment (ratified in December of 1865, 8 months after Grant accepted Lee's surrender) to FORCE him to emancipate them because "good help is so hard to find"(literal justification by the man).
It is not true that you cannot have slavery without "states rights" (a silly little principle integral to that silly little document we call the "Constitution"), as it existed within the despot Lincoln's jurisdiction. This is politically correct propaganda, and racist hate groups have only aided the silly lies about it.

Oh well.... for the record, I DON'T fly the stars and bars and don't put them on any property I have. This is not because I myself preach hate and racial divide NOR THAT I ACCEPT THE LYING PROPAGANDA THAT THEY ORIGINALLY REPRESENTED SUCH. It is just that I don't want to unnecessarily provoke someone with a symbol which has become synonymous with racial animus. I am more than happy to engage with someone who is historically illiterate and go point by point over why this is a ridiculous lie, whether that person is white or black. It is just that there is such an appalling ignorance of anything approaching history after the forces of cultural sanitation have done their thing that flying or sporting a symbol is provoking anger that you cannot have a chance to talk.

Also for the record, I spat on the Lincoln memorial when I visited it. The transformation of a flag waving American boy into a cynical antistate loon centered around Lincoln. It was a tough shock to realize that this man was actually horrible, venal, murderous, hated and despicable tyrant. From there, I looked into the history of the press after the war, and that the forces which massage cultural opinion had transformed this beast of a man into some kind of noble saint. For me, that was the beginning for thinking "nothing these people say about the USA is true," and the distinction between love for the LIBERTY of the founding documents, reverence for those principles as they showed themselves in our history, and the nonsense of "national pride" which is just patriotic socialism.

I do not wish NASCAR any ill will because I have friends that make their living working in the sport, directly and indirectly. I do think NASCAR is going the way of classic blued revolvers, antique furniture and, 1960's muscle cars. The people that like this stuff are getting old and dying out. Younger people have no interest in these things. The fan base is getting smaller every day.

Yesterday, my wife said to me: ā€œi am surprised that the virtue signaling Nascar didnā€™t ask Dixie vodka to change the name of their vodka before the Dixie Vodka 400ā€.

ABC News just stated this morning that it immediately expanded the fan base! Ha!
And we all know that the media is honest and truthful in their reporting, don't we?

Viewership might actually be up. Instead of people sitting around together and watching, everybody is at home due to covid. Instead of 5 or 6 friends sitting in front of one big tv drinking beers, they're each watching on their own tv. So in taht case, even if half of them gave up the sport, that's 3 tvs instead of 1
