maybe i am not sure. just disregard this
I'm asking seriously.

In NC it's basically. Show NCID and as long as they're allowed to own weapons (just ask - are you prohibited from owning firearms?) If they're not prohibited, you're good to go.

Now for the sarcasm...

Of course there's always an FFL transfer if you want to spend money. Then there's the you could ask for a PPP or CHP, coupled with the ever popular BOS so you can keep your own records (this one makes the least sense to me, but whatever). Blood sample, DNA testing, and fingerprints along with SSN and mothers maiden name is what I typically require, because CYA...

Guns don't have a title. In NC it's just a thing you own like a TV or a toaster.

Federal law says you can only deal with folks who live in your same state, or with an FFL when outside your state. And that you can only receive a handgun inside your state.

NC law says you must have a PPP or CHP to receive a handgun.

Going through a dealer gains you nothing but a light wallet and a receipt. Some think the receipt is worth it... That's your call.

This is still mostly a free state.

For long arms an exchange of rifles and a handshake is all you need to do. Just out of curiousity, why are you motivated to transfer this on federal paperwork (which by the way, sits in the safe of the dealer you transfer it through.)

No one told me about the handshake requirement.

Here come the po-po.
A good ol' solid butt slap is a valid substitute, while a fist bump is not.

Some here even believe it's ok to simply use a pants-down man-hug.

Butt slapping is only good to go if it's followed up by a "good game"

Hell, you can walk around victory secret and slap all you want but make sure you say "good game" or you might need to seek legal council.

Note***** I am not educated on the law documents here-therein this state or any state for that matter. This information is strickly my own opinion...

Knuckle bump may be substituted for the handshake at the option of the seller.

Just sayin...

Just forget all the crap you learned on TV cop shows, or whatever other State you have immigrated from.

you guys are blowing this out of proportion. it was just a question. we did a bill of sale for my piece of mind.

Did you get the blood sample? I find it best to just prick a finger and use the blood as ink for the fingerprints. Kind of a 2 birds, one rock thing.

I can't take credit @The Green Heron showed me that nifty little trick.

You, of course, have done nothing wrong in asking the question. The first answer you got is pretty much accurate 100%. Durham has (or had) some weird laws. Not sure of any other locality. The state does not require a FFL to be involved in a FTF long gun purchase. OR a pistol/handgun, if everyone has the right paperwork.

The grumpy old man answers you received are to be ignored, or responded to with what they deserve: even more good-natured and sweet smelling bulls*it.
Who you calling old???
