NC Highway Patrol placing troopers every 20 miles along interstates during Thanksgiving

Hopefully this will eliminate some of the careless and reckless driving and tail gate drivers. I said hopefully, I know realistically it won’t.

Wreckless drivers are great as long as they stay that way. Reckless drivers on the other hand, should be stopped.

How about they pull over the left lane campers too?

Agreed!!!

Sure will. As long as the cop is sitting there.
Once he's outta sight, bam, back on your ass trying to shove you into a packed right lane so he can get 40 feet closer to the packed line of cars in front of you.

But yeah theyre gonna run out of troopers before they cover all of the NC interstates

Yeah realistically they would have to relocate troopers from non interstate counties to be able to do this for any amount of time it would help. My best guess would be that they have multiple dummy cars.

Their main focus will be I-40 ... so 21 Troopers (plus a couple extra for the loops) per shift is possible BUT to me they should not forget I-95 which in my opinion needs wolfpacking more.

Or I-85 which probably handles 5x the traffic of 40 and 2x I-95 during that week

Or I-77 that will be gridlocked because of fender bender or hell even a gender bender on the side of the road would bring that crap hole to a grinder.com stop.

Flashing blue lights on 77 make people go into some sort of weird trance where they can't look away, nor accelerate.

I think the slow left lane hogger doth protest too much. ;p

More selective enforcement. I drive up and down 40 and 85 from WakeCo to DavidsonCo and points in between...a lot. Most days there is apparently no speed limit. I drive 9 over and get blown off the road. We unfortunately will be on that same stretch of road on Turkey day and Black Friday. Will be interesting to see if this does anything to slow folks down. My bet is NO.

Bait cars (cars waiting to be traded, or traded and the buyer hasn't picked them up yet) We were doing that back in the 70's so it's not new. If the cars were able to idle we'd leave the lights on for added effect. There's usually 6 to 8 at each district at any given time.

They have a few HP cars that have solar panels mounted on the trunk so they can sit them out and run the lights.

I am thrilled to move out of the way and let the ass-haulers go on. They weed out the speed traps up ahead, and I always end up catching them once they get stuck behind something anyway. I call em rabbits.
I'm talking about being in packed traffic and even if homey does get around me he's not going anywhere. I always look at these tools and say ok...just what are you hoping to accomplish?
I like to think they have a injured pet and have to get to the vet pronto, but usually they're just being a tool.

Maybe instead of bothering folks on the way to Grandmas house doing modern speed limits (65MPH was cool before everyone had adaptive speed control, collision and lane avoidance, etc. Even the cheapest Korean cars have it nowadays) they should stage out some troopers on the border where we keep getting invaded by illegal cop killers like the guy in the dashcam video this morning. Just seems more effective use of tax dollars.

Painting with a pretty broad paintbrush there. Neither of my cars has "adaptive speed control, collision and lane avoidance, etc."

Back a few years ago, the Rowan county force tried that. This car sat there for about a week, the local hooligans got brave and toilet papered the car. It took them at least a week to get that car out of there, I got a good laugh every day as I passed by it..

Then you need a new car. It will be standard equipment by 2020. Just like airbags ABS and seat belts.

$15K Nissans have had it for 2 years

I don't believe it. Limited manpower, other roads to patrol, need to keep 3shifts operational.
Not sure how many miles of interstate NC has, guessing over 1,0000 so that would be 50 just for the interstate system, 24 hours per day for the 4 day weekend.
CF

I'll try to count how many I see on I-40.

There is no revenue to be raised doing the right thing.

Better to keep an old car that someone else can't hack with a computer. Or that the insurance company can't see what you are doing.
Computers have been on cars since 198x. Im not too worried about my insurance. My wifes Passat has saved us at least twice with the collision avoidance reacting before i could touch the brakes. Assholes looking at their phones in unhackable old cars swerving into our lane

I don't know how I have made it driving all these years with zero accidents and my cars and motorcycle don't warn me about other drivers? Oh wait, I watch what I'm doing and don't depend on my vehicle to tell me what to do.
When the yellow warning light in soccer mom's outside mirror goes out do you think she is going to know that she now has to actually turn her head and look for herself?

I just figured this out. It's part PR/dick waving for the "won't someone think of the children!" crowd AND a way to get a bunch of overtime for our Schutzstaffel.... I mean State Troopers before Christmas.
