The NC Gun Collectors Association gun show is this weekend at the Foothills Higher Education Center, 2128 S. Sterling St., Morganton, NC.

This is a small show (140 tables) but generally has very high quality wares. There will be a couple new gun dealers, but a lot of the vendors will be club members. Usually a good selection of milsurps, collectible commercial guns, militaria, collectible gun parts, ammo, etc. We always have a good time there.

If you’ve got nothing better to do, come on down to beautiful Morganton, browse the show, then end the day a few blocks away at one of three craft breweries in downtown Morganton.

I wish the show was closer to the middle of the state. I remember attending a NCGCA show, probably over ten years ago. I cannot recall where, but it was not Morganton. I liked the variety, the old timers, the atmosphere of firearm enthusiasts. Hope it's a great show for you

They've had them in Salisbury and Concord in recent years. Years and years ago, they had really big shows in Charlotte. NCGCA shows were so good, people traveled from all over the country to attend them back then. Of course, that was before the internet, and traveling to collector association shows was a major way serious collectors found stuff.

I bet it was a show in Concord. I belong to the Ohio GCA, they have +/- 1000 tables per show, six shows each year. And the OGCA is a member only show, you must be a member, or a sponsored guest of a member to get in. No one admitted without a member or guest badge. And all guests are pre selected, no general public admittance. And those shows have hundreds in attendance. The net, gun laws, etc. have affected that organization, but it still is strong. It would be great if the NC association could be revamped. I think I will be heading up to the buckeye state in July for the OGCA show, there is something special about being amongst the old timers and tables without linens, gutter guards and ninja-wanna-be Rambo knives.

Yeah, OGCA is an entirely different animal than NCGCA. But, in the 80s and into the 90s, they were at least on par with the quality of shows. I, too, wish it could go back to that. At least NCGCA is sponsoring shows again. They went for years when they didn't do any.

And, for those considering attending, about half the vendors were set up tonight. There were a couple displays tables that were pretty darn good. Several tables have some very high quality guns and I saw plenty of tables with cool gun-related bric-a-brac. I picked up a SIG P210 tonight, so it has already been a good show for me. It wasn't cheap, but it was still a pretty good deal.
