Nearly forgotten treasure from the back of the vault...P.38II

They were making them for the German Police. I have seen them dated from early 60's to mid 70's
Somewhat common. Have several that were sold as Surplus with the police holster and got two that were new in paper wrap consecutive serial number.
Very cool and good shooters. Lighter than the war time production and many have a lined barrel because of use that were surplused. Holsters were a cool design that would drop and hang on the flap. Later model had the hex reinforced frame. Just an upgrade, not seeing many that had problems, just making them better.

I wish i was older and had money back when these kinds of guns were around and cheap!
now it's all plastic soulless stuff.

Ah those glory days after the cold war ended, the Soviet Union collapsed, and 50 yrs had passed since the end of WWII. The Century and Samco Global Arms flyers were gold mines. The 3 fer 100 Mosins...the 5 fer 100 Turkish Mausers, the $95 Swedes....

The police ones were marked P1. this is definitely a commercial copy

Not all were marked P1. But I agree with this one, Commercial being with the box and owners manual.
SOG imported all steel police P38 german and alloy frame P38 surplus.
The P1 allow is more common.
Should have been more clear.

Working in a gun shop in the mid 70s we sold new commercial P38s with the standard length barrel as well as a version with a very short barrel and the front sight mounted on the slide
P38’s were exotic unicorns back in a 1970’s gun store case filled with S&W revolvers and Colt 1911’s
