What rifle would you get to host a can. Thinking about the MP 15-22 or the Ruger take-down. I know it depends on what you want to do with the rifle. My want are to to just play around with it.

I also have a bunch of 22 handguns but none have a threaded barrel. Not sure what to look for. I do have a Sig 1911-22 and a Colt-Walther 1911-22 but not sure if there is an after market barrel for them.

The Sig 1911-22 possibly has a removable piece on the end of the barrel...which allows you to attach an adapter with 1/2-28 threads. My GSG 1911-22 is the same pistol and that’s how it was set up. Not sure if they made a CA (or somewhere else) compliant version that doesn’t have that option.

15-22 is a fun rifle. Also lots of bolt-action hosts that come threaded. Ruger, Savage, CZ, etc.

I have several 22's with threaded barrels. I really like the S&W Compact best, both from the standpoint of reliability as a suppressor host as well as a handy 22 auto to shoot.

You want bolt action rifle go tikka t1 or cz. Semi auto I would say the Thompson tcr or ruger 10/22. Unless you want an ar15 look then go 1522

Pistol? I am a big fan of the Smith Wesson compact 22lrs. Unless you want a target then hard to beat a mark series something by ruger

My pawn shop sourced el'cheapo Savage MK2 has become a real favorite. I've poured more money into her than I care to admit but I dig the look now that it's sporting a snakeskin pattern Hydrodip stock.

The M16 with the Ciener 22 conversion is wicked fun too.

Now if you want pure awesome fun, and something weird ish might I suggest my favorite 22lr?

Calico pistol in 22lr. 100 round helix mag. Others are leading you down the path of righteousness, but brother, this is the path that rocks.......................until you have to load the mag that is 20190401_150804.jpg

Edit: plus it was the spaceballs gun

You are killing me!

For the ultimate quiet rifle with great accuracy the Ruger American Model number 8334 is hard to beat! With semi-autos like the M&P 15-22 you will have extra noise from the bolt cycling. Bolt guns are quieter.

Sig 1911-22 is a great host.
I bought it with a threaded barrel from factory.
DO NOT get the Sig Mosquito!!!
Unless you want to buy mine then I definitely recommend the Mosquito.
:)

Just checked the Sig 1911-22, Walther/Colt Gold Cup 1911-22 and the Walther P-22 and they too have thread inside the slide. I did order adapters one for the Sig and the WC 1911-22 from Hughes Precision. The P-22 is small I am not sure a can bigger than the gun would work.

For fun and endless smiles? Savage FVSR, or any other decent bolt action. My FVSR with CCI SV is movie quiet. With CCI Quiet, it's just stupid; snapping my fingers is louder I kid you not!

Otherwise, tough to go wrong with a 10/22, 15-22, Ruger MK pistol.

I will say, I do NOT recommend the M&P22 FS pistol. Plenty of guys love the compacts, but the original FS does not handle getting dirty very well.

Jerzsubble, I have a Savage MK-II-FV(I think that is the numbers). It is a bolt action and fun to shoot but it does not have a threaded barrel. The local smith wants $150ish to cut threads. Do you think that is a good price or would you spend a $100+ more dollars and get another rifle?

I’d buy the rifle. They’re a ton of fun. I love my fvsr

Definitely buy a new rifle in that case, and sell the old one if you wish. I’d have the threading done if it was more like $80 or so.
