My wife has been drinking a smoothie every day for over two years now and wearing out the $20 blenders from Target. She wants to start doing more with a blender and it is time for an upgrade and maybe one that will last longer than a few months.

Don't need restaurant quality, but something better than a 20 oster brand. Any recommendations?

America's Test Kitchen did a blender review. Look for it as they are a pretty reliable source.

Also, I have had my Blendtec since 2015.
Occasionally, as in once every 18 months- 2.5 years, the blade bearings at the bottom of the jar start to leak. I call them up, they ask for my serial number and then they just send a new one for free.
They have awesome customer service.

I will say the blender is loud.
Not terrible or anything, but loud.

We grabbed one of the refurbished Vitamix's. Thing is a beast. Did smoothies in it for a long time but kind of faded away from them lately.

I did have a Ninja with 3 sets of blades that was around $100.
I gave it to my mother when I bought the Belndtec.

the ninja sliced everything up very finely, not bad but not great-
The Blendtec only has 2 blades, but one side is thick and dull- it smashes everything into a liquid.

however the lid on the Blendtec can fly off and the smoothie goes everywhere, whereas the ninja had a safety that would stop the motor if the lid opened

My wife has recently started drinking smoothies. Her cousin has done it for years. They both said the nutri-bullet, we got the combo with 2 smaller cups, target has them for $139. Walmart had them for $89.

Vitamix is the only option, Everything else is a disposal item and might last a few years with occasional use. Its not just a blender. It makes ice cream, grinds grain, makes soups etc.... I dont buy cornmeal anymore, I could not find good quality corn meal for cornbread and other uses in this area. It was all either grits or flour! The vita mix will grind corn perfect for all uses. Its a multi purpose tool that will last a lifetime, Customer service is impeccable. Anything else is just another kitchen toy that will end up at goodwill in a few years,

Another plus on the bullet type mixers is the blade head can screw on to canning jars to use as a cup.

The a$$#01e who stole my credit card number a few years ago apparently agreed, since a Vitamix was the first thing he/she bought with it. I didn't know there were blenders that expensive.

Vita-Mix.
We've have ours for 13 years.

Summer beverage that few blenders can handle:
Half fresh strawberries
Half frozen strawberries
(Optional: adult beverage like rum, or high octane moonshine)

Ha ha ha!
Good one!
While I admit, Vitamix is a quality product, do they come with an ironclad 8 year warranty?
Also, can your blender do this— ?
Can it turn a baseball into dust in 30 seconds?

what about an iPad?

Yes the vita mix can do that, I got smart one day and decided to grind my pistachio shells to powder for the compost pile. Worked great, But it scratched up the inside of the blender, At 4 years 10 months old my vita mix seemed a bit slower than usual. Maybe my imagination since I had nothing better to compare it to, Called CS and they sent a free shipping label and insisted I send the container also. They return it completely refurbed with a brand new caraf.

We've got a Breville Juice and Blend. It's both a juicer and a blender, depends on what attachments are on it. 750 watts of power to turn ice cubes to slush which puts it on par with a Vitamix. We don't blend much which is why we got this one with the juicer as well. Using the same motor to drive two small appliances was a choice made for space efficiency.

Vitamix is what we went with. My wife always wanted one so we picked one up years ago at Costco. It has worked well. It is does a lot more than just smoothies. It is great for soups, sauces etc... It is pricey but they are solidly built. This is a perfect package with togo cups included from Costco. About $150 less than anywhere else.

Vitamix if you only want to buy once. Have had mine for at least 15yrs. Hard to spend that kind of money but I will do it again if I ever need to.

I was gifted a older Cuisinart blender, with the glass 50oz jar and it will crush ice cubes but we use it for smoothies and for cooking. When I want a personal size smoothie, I use the small Nutri bullet style blender I got from Wally clearance a few years ago for $15

Mine will crush the frozen banana/strawberry mix easily, but I want mine more the consistancy of a milkshake so I do about half and half frozen fruit and almond milk now with half a scoop of choc protein powder

It looks like vitamix has a 7 year warranty now. We are looking at vitamixes and blentechs. Thank y'all for the feedback.

My inlaws bought a vitamix, at the time the model was called sidewinder, at the NC state fair in the late 1960’s and it’s still going strong. Ours is only 15 or so.

I don’t think they make them like that any more, but even if a new one lasts 10 years that’s just $40-50 per year.

We have a Blentech. Pretty sweet.
Beast power.
