I have a Q5 that’s has target sites on it that I just hate. My LGS said they may could order me some 3 dot NS but can’t put them on.i guess I’m going with a optic. What do y’all think about a Vortex venom? Shot me some ideas on something different. Cheaper the better:)

The Romeo 5 is much larger and made fo an AR. The Vortex Venom and Burris Fast Fire are good handgun options. I'm hearing good things about Holosun too.

I’m guessing some aren’t familiar with what a Q5 is... except for maybe a midsized German SUV/X-over.

Clearly, a micro red dot is needed for this application.

I have a Vortex Venom on a shotgun and I like it - it's been reliable and has remained zero'd. Got it for $180 from PSA when they were on special a while back.

If you keep your eye on gun.deals they come up for a similar price regularly from various places.

Thanks, let me see if it will fit. I have no preference. The Vortex is the first one that popped up for the pistol
Yeah, I replied before I thought (then deleted it, but not fast enough). Sorry.

I’d save up a few more pennies and put something that says Trijicon on it. RMR or an SRO.

Holosun 407C. Bright, seems rugged, has shake awake and auto brightness features I don't use, very good battery life, RMR footprint.

I have a Vortex Viper also, would guess the electronics are the same as the Venom, it's not bright enough for all conditions. Suffers washout/glare when the sun or other light source is near the horizon.

For the price, I’d get the holosun over the vortex.
Slide ride optics get beat. Yer gonna need that excellent vortex warranty. Most besides the RMR are gonna be hit or miss. But the holosun has proven to be very good for the money.

sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.comhas the romeo 5 on sale for 99.99

i have a couple and really like the motac feature

I really like my holoson 507.
If you need more then go for the SRO.

You mount Romeo 5s on pistol slides?

I've got an old Docter somewhere. I really should buy a walther host it. It's killing me to not be wealthy enough to throw money at a Q5SF... that's the one drawback to being married is that somehow with 2 incomes, i now have 3x the bills to pay.

Right there with ya, that’s why I have the plastic instead of the steel frame

just FWIW, there are only a few mount patterns. Here's a chart:

The Vortex Venom uses the same Docter pattern as the Burris FF3, and those are a nice little dot that can be had for under $200.

Just the facts: Other than Aimpoint and Trijicon, they're all made in China. There are 'ADE' optics red dots all over Ebay and Amazon that work well for what they are. $50-75 will eat it up.

Caution on the ADE dots - I just picked up one of the new ADE dots with a HUGE window. The dot is dim in sunlight. I put it on my SW Victory to try it in a rimfire match, and wasn't a fan. I'll probably trade up to the Vortex.

I'm entry level with red dots. Tried the JPoint on my CZ P10F. I was frustrated at first with elevation on the JP. But learned later you have to test your accuracy more at 15-20 yds, not just 5-10. The JP is so small in height, you need to get a shim plate to get the dot up on the target COM. It's about half the price of Trijicon and the best Vortex, which I may explore later.

Too many distractions right now to centralize on red dots with rifles and trap shooting lol.

True but according to reviews, it's as fragile as a wine flute. So even though I love some Leupold glass I dont even consider that one at its price point of $399
That I haven’t seen, at $312 out the door I bought one and am happy with it. Trijicon’s lack of warranty, higher price and smaller window made it an easy choice.

Aaron from Sage Dynamics torture tested all of the current red dot sights on the market. The DPP and other ones with a larger window shattered when dropped from 6ft on concrete:

The consensus was basically, if you're life depends on it, and you're using it in a "duty" capacity there's a reason why the RMR is used by military and police forces. Anything short of that, and one of the other smaller windowed dots will probably work fine, include for HD or SD carry.

The Holosun 507 did very well for it's $250ish price point.

Is he the same guy that does the abuse YT videos? The Holosun did surprise me.
I looked at that doc on my phone so I could have missed something, it looks like the DPP faired quite well.

@Ikarus1 It appears I had the newer report 3rd edition 2019 saved to my computer. The DPP didn't hold up as well as the older DeltaPoint.

I might be different, but I cant seem to get myself to like a dot sight on my pistol. Ive got one on my rifle, more then one in fact and they work just fine for me. Ive tried dots on my comp pistols in the past thinking it might decrease my times during a match, but it really didn't because it took me a bit of time to find the dot from the draw. I admit, I didn't give them much of a chance before I took them off. Years later, my eyesight is failing so I did some research on install a dot on my 1911 comp pistol. Luckily I have a friend that uses an RMR on his CZ and told me to try it first. The dancing dot wandering around the target really annoyed me, so I installed a set of fiber optic front and rear sights for a lot less then a good quality dot and they help a lot in the sight picture aspect and I don't have to relearn a new hold to pick up the dot. Now, I like my dots on my rifles that I compete with. They line up well with my hold and don't dance around probably due to the stability of being on a rifle..
