Need some advice here... can i trust this machine for two weeks?

My GE fridge stopped running the other day. Power was on, fans running, no compressor. Everything thawed and we moved to coolers. I unplugged it and propped doors open overnight

And we ordered a replacement that will take 2 weeks to arrive...

Next day i plug it in and its running fine. Freezer is 0 deg., fridge is 38 since last nite.

But i am skeert to put my food back. Can i trust it?

Was the compressor really really hot? if so it might have been off because the overload had it cut off because it had been running too long. One possible cause is the defrost timer or heater is bad and there wasn't enough air circulation in the box.

If you have digital controls I have seen one or two that just needed a reset by unplugging and plugging back in and they worked fine.

Bat signal up for a pro @cold1

Didn't think of that I haven't worked on new appliances since back in the 80's , ahhh the good old days.

Come to think of it the one in my house is probably 35 years old so far all it's needed is a defrost timer.

My shop frig is a 1948 General Motors and it runs just fine. Yup GM made frigs back in the day.

Also do a check see how much dust and crud has built up, filters may be clogged and coils blocked if your compressor over heated, as Mikew said may have over heated. I'ld let it go till it does it again, if it is real soon, new one needed if it doesn't then may have been over heat issue

I think my folks had an International Harvester Refrigerator back in the 60's. Dad worked for Red.

Thanks for all the help - it's still running fine and I only need a few more days out of it. BTW if anyone in the CLT area wants to grab a free fridge post up here before 03/24 or the delivery guys will haul it away for me.

If it is an energy star fridge, you probably need a new board.

If its not and all the fans were running and the comp was not, it probably needs the coils cleaned.

There are lots of variations on fridge controls now days. Its really hard to pin down problems without more details but since you have new one on the way not much reason to get into those details.

The fancier a fridge the more expensive it is to fix when it breaks. The wife might not like the looks of a simpler machine but se will like the repair bill even less when it breaks, and they break more often.

She wanted a kitchenaide. Not a ton of bells or whistles on it, so im hopeful it will hold up.

Had a Norge back in 1992 when I moved a temporary apartment in Raleigh.
