Need some divine help on the job front

Got a response from Northrop Grumman.
Phone interview next week.

Also applied for an engineering manager position at a former employer but not optimistic on that one.

Maryland is far from my first relocation choice. Might be close enough to PA just to commute if I get the job.
Anyway, the light at the end of the tunnel has not been extinguished yet.

Wish you luck. I'm headed for my firth layoff in my 47 year career. The older you get the harder it is to find work without having to relocate.

That sux.
I've been fortunate over all. Only laid off once.
Relocated south out of choice for a new job back in 2008. Got laid off freon that one in 2014.
Current job is only "better than being unemployed" or the other option if taking a job just outside Chicago.

Phone interviewed now scheduled for next week, Wednesday, regarding a job in Maryland.

Phone interview went well.
They were very pleasant people. We even started off topic when discussing the why I'm not averse to relocating.
They even chuckled at my "good morning good evening" salutation. Ha!
Sounds like it will be a very good opportunity to advance my skill set too.
Yes MD is "behind enemy lines" now.
But it beats the crap out traveling to China. And it is still affordable compared to CA, NY and NJ.

Never thought I would find myself possibly congratulating someone on their move to MD, but I agree, it would be better than China. Depending on where in MD and your ability and willingness to commute, WVa, Va, or Penn might be options.

Near the airport.
An hour from the PA border.
I'll check maps to see other borders.
I had a 1 hour commute to work when we lived in Boston and I worked in Lowell MA. I wasn't swimming back then.
If our daughter decides to stay in NC we can leave certain things in storage until we get settled.
That is all contingent on getting the job.
Hopefully that happens. Can't take much more of China crap.

Leave your guns here; seriously. They've got real hate issues there with guns; BUT, they've chosen to be a "sanctuary" so the crime rate is stupid !
Just take what you need for personal and home protection.
If you've got a CCW here, change your drivers license to MD as fast as possible. So, when they pull you over, they don't automatically see your CCW and use it as a fishing expedition. Or, keep your NCDL and an address here and don't change the vehicle plates to MD and get the heck out of there as soon as possible.
Walmarts and grocery stores there look and sound like third world countries. Drivers are terrible and may or may not even have a DL or speak English.
And, the PC Police are in full strength there, so watch what you say ...
But, yes, it beats China.

If you're out by BWI, stay as far out from Baltimore as possible when looking for a place to live.

Still praying for you and the wife !

Got some great news today.
#1. On site job interview in Maryland April.
#2. Going to drive up with my wife and make it a mini vacation.
#3. They are expanding the design center in Morrisville NC and said they can put me there instead of Maryland. So no hiding, storing, or selling hardware.
At most moving to the area and closer to OBX.

Great to hear! The Lord works things out. In Nov 2008, I got laid off. The next day, my mother passed away. Three months later, I got the job I still have (just had my 10th anniversary).

Back in November of 1991, the day my best friend died of mesothelioma, I got a call from an internal company recruiter who was not supposed to call current employees. She called me by accident about a job in the design group in Lowell.
I got that job and continued with the company until 2008 when I moved to NC.
That call eased the ache just a little bit.
He was 34 years old. I still think about him during all the big events of my life.
He is on the left.

You'll be nearby, Morrisville has been swallowed by Cary, uptown and crowded. You can live 30-40 min away and have some space.
Good luck!

The is a new YMCA in Cary too. Northwest Cary YMCA. Close to the office location.
Want to be able to get my 4 Mile swim in before work still.
Will have to leave Kernersville around 3:45am to do that until we move closer.
Trying to convince my wife that I'll need a new car. Dodge Challenger R/T with 6 speed stick. :D
I don't currently have a car per se. Sold my veloster and can't justify buying another car when I travel so much.

If you want to live a little further out, N Pittsboro area will be a great investment as Chatham Park will be getting built. If you want less future urban, Apex South will give you good access.

Tomorrow is another big day for hope.
May 3rd, almost here. Hopefully this time the interview results in a job offer.
Based on the level the position is for, it should also result in a raise too. But even if it doesn't, not traveling to China anymore will be worth it.
good luck man - go in with confidence!

My wife prefers a little less rural than where we live now in K'Ville. She wants a small ranch with a yard big enough for growing our garden of death peppers. But not big enough to justify a riding mower.
Me, I'm with her on the single story ranch. But a yard big enough to justify a Zero Turn might be cool. But then I'd like to have time for stuff other than yard work on weekends. So smaller is okay by me too.
Definitely now townhouse set up. I can't light up my 1KW subwoofer when a wall is shared with another home.

Come to Apex. Close enough to everything, but not crazy with too much commercial/industrial stuff to make it crazy. Plus I could use a close pepper supplier. Hop on 540 and you are in Morrisville pretty quickly. Holly Springs might be a possibility too. Probably a little cheaper there depending on what you look for. Pittsboro has possibilities, but the commute may be a pain.

Anyone else in hardware, software, systems, Northrop is really expanding.
Still 60 some positions to fill just in Morrisville.

I’d say no to Holly Springs or F-V.
We left there 3 years ago to Chatham Co. The traffic was ridiculous on 55 with only left U-turns and many huge neighborhoods going in.
We’re further out and get to Ral, Durham, Cary, Apex a whole lot faster now. We’re S of Apex off US-1, 64 west of Apex/Cary is nice as well.

I was going to say lots of ranch land left in Chatham County, and the commute ain't too bad! LOL

My neighborhood is off of 64 and the flow from Pittsboro and West in the AM is pretty heavy. But it moves. Not bad unless you hit the lights probably. But then you still have to make your way north to Morrisville.

Now people just hop on 540 and avoid all the 55 crap. I agree that 55 is a mess if you have to commute that whole stretch.

Good luck finding much of it that will handle a septic system. That is one thing that will keep a lot of it from being sold off as housing lots. Or at least slow it down due to the lack of public sewer. Water wells are also typically 500’ deep., at least that is our experience and others have said the same. Go east and you get gobs of water at shallow depths.

I'd be giving them a look, except I like where I am too much. I have an office with a door and a window...
