I have a palmetto 11.5” pistol with a sb brace and want to put a red dot on it. Gun is mostly cuz i have always wanted a ar pistol and finally got one. Uses will be range and taking with me in the woods and to take with me in the car when i go out. I was looking at the Holosun 403r series or maybe even a eotech 512, aimpoint duty/pro. Really like to stay under $250 but can do up to $500 for a aimpoint/eotech if there that much better. I have a pro and love it but never had a holosun so not sure about reliability or staying zeroed.
Thanks for any help fellas.

I have a rig with an Aimpoint PRO and another one with a Holosun 510. I ditched both factory mounts and went with mounts from American Defense.

No complaints about either setup.

At your price point, either finding a very well used Aimpoint, a moderately used Eotech, or a BNIB Holosun are going to be your best bet. Between all three, I'd say find a good deal on a Holosun today since it's Cyber Monday and enjoy it. :)

I used a bunch of the original SPARC models before I swapped to prisms. Here’s a decent deal on a newer one:

Held a Riton optics 1-8x24 at gun store today and really liked it but don’t know much about the brand, almost like to put the pro on the pistol and a lpvo on the 16” colt.

I've been looking at Romeo5s. I'd get the regular ones just to avoid having AAA batteries. I don't like pulling electronics out and finding that the batteries leaked and destroyed or corroded the electronics. I don't think coin cells or CR123s do that, but AA and AAA leak when they get old.

[EDIT] I have an Eotech with the 65 MOA reticle, and plenty of regular red dots. If anything I think the single red dot is faster.
The form factor isn’t really the culprit in determining whether a battery is more likely to leak, it’s the chemistry. Alkaline batteries tend to be the culprit in leaks, and a coin cell can be alkaline.

Lithium AA and AAA primaries should be fine. So should NiMH rechargeable.

Ordered a Holosun 403b. Had $11 worth of points i wanted to use up. Hope i like it and thanks for the replies.
Fwiw I have a ton of these. They've survived years of use on ARs and on a M500 (12 ga) with 0 issues. Toss one on a nice 1.93 mount and you're perfect!

I just figured if I’m gonna spend another $80 for a mount I would just get a Aimpoint pro. Hopefully this Holosun will serve me well.

Are the mounts that come with it not any good?
They're totally fine! I used the factory mounts for a very long time. I had one with bad metallurgy on the cross bolt but holosun sent me replacements no questions asked. I don't think this one issue was anything systematic, just 1 bad bolt.

I just recently picked up some Geissele 1.93 mounts to try out on my rds only ARs and have fallen in love.
