New 2017 Colt Cobra

Hmmm....I'll believe it when it actually happens. Of course, I'll have one. :) Wish they would make brushed stainless or blued (real blued)

Hope they price it better than the Kimber K6S

yeah - I have a request in to my dealer - preference for brushed stainless if they make it... time will tell.

If they make stainless and blue, you'll have to buy two of em then.

Rumor has it that Colt isn't done with double action revolvers with just this. The rep I delt with at Colt said there are some interesting changes that are coming around. This started when Colt lost the M4 contract.

Colt should have never walked away from the civilian market the way they did and they certainly should not have walked away from the double action revolver market. I seriously doubt they have the craftsmen needed to make the same revolvers they used to make but we'll see.

It's true that we may lose some of the fine detail that comes from hands-on craftsmanship, but Colt can certainly mass produce a very high quality / solid revolver. I'll be the first in line for the Cobra and PYTHON (in 2019).

I am impressed with the new Kimber so far. Been carrying it all day. Really like the trigger feel that comes from more modern finishing and composition internally. Not sure why it feels so different because the guts look like a Smith J frame.

EDIT: Just starting a rumor about the Python.

Also the manufacturing process has came leaps and bounds. Parts can be made to a tighter tolerance.

Qball With this new Colt revolver coming out, your nice shiny Colt Viper's value is going to plummet. Tell you what....I"ll give you $250 for it. :)

That's hilarious! I was just looking at this thread when you posted that.

I'll give him $200, but he'll have to drive to me.

I am hearing $699 MSRP.

Colt Custom Shop Manager confirmed the MSRP and that it will have a V-Spring.

Seriously dude...my offer is on the table until tomorrow afternoon. I'll be at the Hickory show early tomorrow. I'll throw in a couple Jason's Deli gift certificates if that helps.

Im in for a stainless 2019 python... I keep eyeing them on GB but can't take the plunge. Have a blue a bought a while back when they were "reasonable" by comparison.

agree - but I think they see the writing on the wall as the way to stay afloat.

I wonder IF they start producing all snake guns again if it will drive prices down at all on the others... may just spark more interest in them and continue the rise...

Can they really go up anymore? I've seen some listed on AL for $35k recently.

On the new Cobra posted over in the Colt forum by one of the Colt Custom shop mangers: NDA in place till the 1st so those pics were leaked a bit early. I will give a couple things away though. V-spring, $699msrp, trigger pull is great and linear....

and yes... searching the Colt forum on the hunt for a nice Colt SAA...

I asked myself that same question. My guess: yes, simply because of the effect it would have on the market.

I hope Colt comes back to the DA revolver market with some good products and I would love to see a Python II one day.

Curious that they named this steel framed revolver a Cobra since its namesake had an aluminum frame. What do you think? Cashing in on the panache of the "snake guns"?

What timing! Just purchased a LNIB Cobra Thursday! Oh well guess I'll have to get the 21st century version as well.

Did Colt actually name it? As far as I'm aware, this is leaked info and the "Cobra" designation is from people drawing parallels with the older model.

I dig it but probably won't be an early adopter. Give it time and make sure Colt actually still has what it takes to produce high-quality revolvers. Besides, then there should be a decent used market.

Rubber Hogue Grips?
Really?
I can buy those for $40 msrp.

Put some nice woody's on the damn thing already.
"But that would drive the cost up.."
So eff'n what? They named it after one of their legends, and put rubber floor mats on it. Yeah. Genius.

I haven't been impressed with Colt in the past many years. They have no initiative. They sit on their hands and wait to see what the competition does and how well the market responds.
Even when the public cries, loudly, to bring back the snake series...that only they can do...they stand around for decades like a bunch of deaf ignoramus's sporting a blank stare.
They get an exclusive contract to build special 1911's for the Marines, and botch it.
And of course the bankruptcy thing...
Their self-aggrandizing arrogance that they can price their product at 25% more than the competition simply because it says Colt on the side is ridiculous. That wave was surfed a long time ago.

The Colt of old had a lead-don't-follow attitude and produced some of the best firearms ever made. The new Colt is just the opposite.
Until they get back to a master craftsmanship approach, I'm gonna hold back and continue shopping.

Sorry. Don't mean to be a buzz kill. I want the old Colt revived, and they just won't do it regardless of persistent demand from an enthusiastic public.

A persistent demand and enthusiastic public disappears quick when MSRP hit $1999.00. You can buy a revolver made like the old Colt's and S&W's. Take a look at Korth revolvers, that start around $2000.

That's a big part of why I'm waiting to see a) where the no-kidding market price of these revolvers falls and b) what the QC looks like. I don't know of any time Colt produced a dud (in any product line), but I'll give them a minute to iron things out before I seriously consider this.

I get that. But Mercedes has figured out how to sell a $30,000 car while still making ones that go for $150,000.
Colt won't do that, even with a market that has more rich people involved than ever before.

Oh yeah..Korth. Drool. And yeah, that's what I would do since Colt doesn't even offer that option.
Maybe not at Korth levels, but at least S&W offers Performance Center models...and they sell.

My thinking, and I'm no marketing expert, is that Colt needs to bring to market a revolver to compete with S&W in general quality and most importantly, price. Hence the $699 MSRP. You need to have a base to build from. If Colt can establish a market, then you compete with S&W's performance center models or offer highly finished examples. I wish Colt well, hate to see such an American icon disappear. Hope some day to buy one.
Me? I'm waiting for my for my favorite gun pusher to call and say he's got my S&W 69 with 2 3/4" barrel in. That's going to be one fun boomer!

If only they made them like they used to. Hope that they do surprise me and and make an outstanding model(s)

I was thinking the same. I am disappointed at Colt. I still have my 1911s, but haven't bought much with the Colt name on it in a very long while. They have sold us out, and now want to come crawling back because they have nothing else going for them. Shame on Colt.

It's here. Big photo shoot to follow in picture thread...later this evening. Will take it to the range tomorrow.
