First 50ish rounds cycled fine. Then it started to malfunction. Bending live rounds and denting the cases. And jamming the bolt mostly closed. We’re both AR newbs so any advice on the cause? Can’t get pics to load at the moment.

Have any specifics? Manufacturers, what bolt carrier group, magazines, and recoil system specs would be a great start.

Nothing fancy. 80% lower, psa everything else basically. (Bought the upper assembled)

Without being able to actually see your upper and lower, here's my take:

Your mag doesn't seat high enough in the lower. This could be for many reasons but it could be one or both of; a. Mag catch location is off spec in your lower, this can be confirmed by measuring your mag catch slot and comparing numbers with a PSA lower.
b. The feed ramps/barrel extension aren't at a height offset from your lower that will permit proper feeding.

Your best bet when building is matched upper and lower sets for future reference. It's painful to see folks throw hard-earned money at learning that the hard way.
