new charcoal ?

adding to this....
is the "fancy" or more expensive charcoal worth it
just for hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks and other
quick-and-easy grilling out?

i have tried some, and i might be doing it wrong,
but it is not worth the price difference to me.

please post your experience and cost/benefit opinion.

Hamburgers and hot dogs no, but I like a charcoal smokey steak

I prefer to add my own seasoning to the charcoal and the dish being cooked. I would have no control over what is already in the charcoal.

I’ve been using FOGO lately. It’s a natural hardwood charcoal. It burns longer and hotter than some of the other natural charcoals I have used. For burgers or dogs I’ll just use the Cowboy I can buy at Home Depot. But for longer cooks or beef I use the good stuff. I agree with @Geezer on the seasoning thing. I have wood chunks if I want to add a certain smoke and seasoning for my meats. I did try some cayenne pellets once in my Yoder. Don‘t think it made a damn difference. I was doing wings so thought I would give it a try,

Big Green Egg charcoal in the green bag is a favorite. no infused briquettes, just clean hardwood lump that gives a mild smoke flavor to the meat. not even a whiff of chemicals and no raw under charred wood pieces like some others ive tried.
