CMC's sheetmetal trigger bodies are cheap and fast to manufacture. While they were the first to offer a drop-in performance trigger and they work well, other manufacturers drop-in offerings have much higher quality/precision. The best built/engineered trigger is the Wilson Combat Series. They cost more, but they use a billet machined tool steel body that is hardened after machining. They also use S7 material in all of the trigger components, and wire EDM the entire sear/hammer/disconnector surfaces.

“The Best” is always debatable when you start dropping over 150$.
There are many very good triggers at over that price point.
Timney Calvin Elite, AR Gold, Hiperfire, ELF, JP to name a few.

I was thinking about either the CMC or Larue single stage for my pinned 14.5", but when I found Geissele SSPs for $170 I just said fuggit & ponied up a few extra bucks for the gold standard.

Never fired an AR with a good trigger, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the fuss is about. My fear is that like my foray into German glass, it's going to significantly increase my parts costs going forward.

It will.
The larue is so close to the G, that to me, it isnt worth the extra $100... but Ive had both and both will ruin you

I just would like to know why CMC can't make the body of their triggers out of something that looks better than the inside of an old beer can
I agree it does not look good, but I have a very pretty red anodized elftmann trigger that looks beautiful, that I wish worked like the CMC I have.
**Edit**
Mine is
Elftmann Tactical ELF-SE Trigger
(Trigger Type: straight) SKU-ELFSES

Regular price was $162.00 got a coupon code for $121.50. I have a $88.00 Rise Armament trigger that is also nicer than the elf too.

The ELF match and 3gun triggers have great feel.

But I have heard of problems with those. Although have heard many satisfied people as well.

I said "BEST BUILT/ENGINEERED" modular drop in trigger ..... Not "BEST PERFORMING" modular drop in trigger....... lol...!!!

Best Performing is subjective to the individual user. There are many fine choices that perform well. I have tested the W/C, Timney, POF, ELF, CMC, and AR Gold. I have also tested the JARD but it is not included in this discussion about modular drop in trigger units.

The best built ( materials/manufacturing methodology/techniques ) is the Wilson Combat series by far. Its build for duty/battle use. They dont skimp anywhere on the unit.
W/C is the only mfg. to use hardened tool steel for the chassis. The others use anodized aluminum ( cheaper ). The W/C uses SS bushings in a wired EDMed S7 hammer. The others use no bushing and mill profiled steel hammers. ( cheaper). The engineering on the W/C is brilliant.

Still just your opinion.

Not really....

Have you examined one? The engineering is superior.

I have one I will send you to check out ( and run if you like). Just pay for the shipping back when you are done testing. I believe you shoot quite a bit and know good gear ( by your posts). I think firsthand feedback from you would great.

That’s a very generous and kind offer. Thank you!
I have examined one and shot several. A very good trigger and I know some precision guys who like them on their gas guns.

I’ve not been overly impressed by any WC AR-15s or products for AR-15’s.

But people have different opinions and that’s ok with me.

Im with ya! Im not big on the WC ARs myself. I would be curious as to your choice of best engineered/built drop in trigger. What are the material/machining features that are most important to you? What do you not like? ( least important feature(s) )

These questions are interesting for sure. I’m sure you can find someone to debate them with you that has more expertise and more interest in it. I think you’ll find differing opinions even among the most expert.
