Some of you may have seen my recent sale thread for the Marlin 1894CS (JM Stamped). Well, I am already regretting that I sold my only .38/.357 lever gun.

Then, I learned that Marlin will release the 1894CST, a stainless .38/.357 lever gun with threaded barrel. Sounds like fun.

I just sold both my 44mag 1894 & 357 (no cross bolt models.)

I have a stainless threaded 16" Rossi M92 that does everything better than either of them could (except mount optics.)

Slackers Rossi with can is crazy fun and accurate. More than I would have imagined.

Had you told me a few years ago cowboy guns are fun with cans I would have given a blank stare.

Ha!

I've seen that look!

Starting at $1154?? They must be smoking some good stuff.

I remember reading the specs, it said .5x28.

That seems awful small, when a .30 cal is typically threaded 5/8x24.

I'm a sucker for stainless steel & IF Remlin gets these right, I'll have a hard time not getting the .357.

Well, Remlins still have QC issues, so I would recommend NOT purchasing one sight unseen! Biggest and most common issue is canted barrels, bent buckhorn and wrong height front sight. The only one of course that has to go back to the factory is the canted barrel. Saw that at Cabela's 2 weeks ago. Buyer beware!

I don't see how they could mess this up that bad. They pretty much have had all of the tooling for this gun for other models and it's not like the action design is new. They just got off their ass and figured out what the market wanted.

I collect Marlins, if Remington made a decent product I'd own one. I HAVE owned a few, but only as placeholders till I could find a JM stamped version. They all had flaws, mostly just cosmetic, but nothing you could fix unless you were VERY careful. I check once a month or so, I have NEVER NOT found a Marlin that didn't have a defect that didn't require being sent back to Marlin to fix. Been doing it for 10 years since they purchased them. That said, they do have some that ARE nice, all I'm saying is that you need to inspect them before taking delivery. I'd sell them myself, but right now 30% of what I see in the stores are not right so out of every 10 I'd buy I'd have to return 3 or 4....no thanks.
At that price they are asking for, you could purchase a JM stamped model. I really wish Remington would make a quality product....but hey, it's been about 10 years now...maybe they'll get it right this year.

I have seen a lot of guys run 9mm cans on 38/357, so that thread pitch should be good.

Either way, if it's just getting started with factory threaded barrel then we can see some good stuff coming, hopefully! Just not anymore of the railed Mossberg lever gun (or whatever contraption that is)
