New match at Point Blank Range

Are these the guys that kicked out a long running matcha few weeks ago?

$50 is what it would cost to shoot the first round! No thanks.

So $200 if you make it all the way, not bad if are the champion

I like the idea, but I can repeatedly show up @RecoilJunkie match, beat him, save alot of money and work on a better classification

Sorry for crapping on your match PBR

If my math is correct then they stand to gross over $5,000 in entry fees. Not a bad takeaway if they can execute it.

[strike]$8,260 in match fees.[/strike]

$5,060

Round 1 = 64 * $50 = [strike]$6,400[/strike] $3,200
Round 2 = 32 * $30 = $960
Round 3 = 16 * $30 = $480
Round 4 = 8 * $30 = $240
Round 5 = 4 * $30 = $120
Round 6 = 2 * $30 = $60

Unless I’m misunderstanding, it’s a $20 entry fee and $30 for each round. How’d you get to $8,260?

DOH! My math skilz suck.

You're correct.

It's a total of $5,060.

My bad. Still, it's not exactly cheap.

I read it at $20 entry fee + $30/round INCLUDING round 1. In other words, Round 1 you're all in at $50. I could be wrong. It could be $20 for round 1 and $30 thereafter.

Either way, it ain't cheap.
I see it as $50 on the jump off also.
$20 for "membership" to the shoot off. $30 a match

I want nothing to do with Point Blank Range. The 2 or 3 times I went there was enough for me to not go back. I know a number of people who live in Mooresville and drive to Denver to shoot because Denver Defense is a nicer place to be.

This match format - in my opinion - is not attractive for the ~50 folks that have no chance of winning the only prize. I think they'd be much better served with something like a 50% payout.

If match fees are $5,060, pay out $2,530 on some reasonable scale to the top shooters.

for example, the match winner will be $170 invested in his win. Pay him $300.
Pay the runner-up his match fees. $170
Pro-rate the rest back to the 1/4 final round winners.

You get more people "winning" you get more excitement and more participation.

There might be a little truth to that.... especially the way I've been shooting

The only problem I ever had there was when I asked a tactical type they had there if he could tell me anything about the S&W M360J. I bought one and have gotten sketchy info, it's not even in the catalog and just seems to appear on the market from time to time. This jackwad actually held one up by the frame and said, "see, it's shaped like J". I really wanted to grab the high speed beard and ram his face into the display glass. I don't think he was there long. I've been ignored at gun counters, and had to deal with someone who knew less than I did about the gun I inquired about, but never been spoken to like that. Tell me I'm wrong, or whatever. Just don't be a condescending prick about it. He fit the bill as the biggest complaint I have about many LGS, and or gun counter guys at a big box store. They may know a lot about firearms, but seriously need to develop a personality and dealing with the public skills.

The new gunsmith is great, he works for CAG as well. Very nice person. Fixed my gun, and the underlying reason it broke instead of just replacing the pin that was cracked. Ten minutes. No drop off and wait til they get around to it. I just made sure he was on the schedule the day I took it in.

I just don't buy in to their shooting competitions. The reasons cited above as far as cost, and quite frankly I wouldn't have snowballs chance in hell of winning anyway.

With that said, due to the traffic on 77, and just plain distance, I will be a member at DD very soon. The 50 yard lanes there were also a big factor in my decision as well. They seem to be very nice people as well.
