looking for some opinions here. Today at the range I only shot a VP9 and a 9mm 1911. Someone try to explain this to me.
Shooting at close range I'm more accurate with the VP9,, at distance it's the 1911. It was that way all day. Any ideas??

Small sample size and not enough data would be my guess. And maybe a little influence of weight/balance and maybe barrel length. Either way not enough info to pin it down.

What do you mean by accurate? POI closer to POA, or consistently smaller group without regard to POA?

I love my 9mm 1911. Cleaned it just a few weeks ago and need to take it shooting.

Probably grip, trigger control...maybe barrel length.

It's possible the front sight on the VP9 is large enough to obscure the center of the target at distance, while the 1911 front sight does not? If so, even though you might have thought you were aiming the same, you actually were aiming "smaller" with the 1911 at distance. Not sure, just a thought.

I think you have something there.
Aim small,, miss small

for me it tends to be a "flinch" that causes spread at longer distances.

I love my VP9 but it does have some muzzle flip that I tend to anticipate. can't tell inside of 7 yards but becomes more apparent beyond that.

I tend to flinch more with some pistols than others.

never flinch during dry fire...

I should load more dummy rounds.

What is close range and distance? We talking up close and personal vs 7 yards? Or we talking 25yds vs 75yds?

25ft vs 75 ft,, I'm trying to get better. I can scare the crap out of somebody though

And what is the purpose of the practice. Self defense prepping or trying to get a single hole.

For self defense at 25ft I am almost exclusively point shooting and not using the sites but again self defense is combat accuracy.

Just target,,,

Also you never answered JimB above, is your concern POI versus POA or group size.

Just target? Are you trying to punch a single hole or trying to put all your rounds in a silhouette?

POI vs POA. The further out I shoot, the closer they are
