I finally found what I wanted and picked up a new SR 22 with my gander gift cards. I went for the threaded barrel option as it just made sense for down the road (shut up Drums).

So for those that have them..let me know what I need to be on the look out for such as upgrades, ammo selection etc.

The one I got the wife works great. No upgrades, eats everything I put in it. I wish it had a threaded barrel though.

This is amazingly identical to what I would have said.

I bought my wife one as a 2oth anniversary gift. She loved it. It cycles everything. I wish it had a threaded barrel.

Good choice. IMO the best of the little semi auto 22's. Eats all the ammo, shoots tight little groups, excellent for training...
Upgrades..I've never felt the need. None of the stuff is Les Baer, but the trigger, sights, and such are more than adequate.
The only thing I've ever noticed, is a sometimes tendency to FTE/stovepipe when limp wristed. But that's not the gun. Tighten up the grip and that'll stop.

I went ahead and paid the extra 40$ for the threaded model. I also paid another 35$ and got the gander service plan Just in case.

My only disappointment is that the safety is opposite of my carry pistol and my pmr30.

I bought a used one about a month or so ago and it came with 3 magazines. I wiped down inside and out when I got it, did nothing to the bore. I have put several hundred rounds of Federal bulk through without even one problem. I'm not going to clean it until it starts acting up. I have finally got used to the transition from the DA first shot and then SA for the rest of the magazine. And, the safety is kinda backwards but, overall I am very pleased with the little gun.

I just ordered 2 tandemkross +5 extenders for the wife's. $22.99 no tax and free shipping.

I have those added to my cart at their site....also pondering the rod with captured spring to replace the plastic rod. I am also pondering their thread adapter depending on what the factory threads are after I read the handbook.

Well the Ruger I sold my son did not eat everything. Anything marked 'Federal' is a waste of my money IMO. Especially Automatch. I saved that for my Marlin rifles. The folks on RimfireCentral found many boxes of Automatch are loaded low on powder in some lots.

Matty ran one when he started shooting USPSA. Ran best on CCI std vel. Only ammo it didnt like was Federal Automatch. The Tandomcross ext's work great.

Mine went through 2 boxes of Automatch and I'm now on some 550 boxes. I'm trying to shoot up all of my Federal before going to my CCI stash. Not sure if I'll live that long.

Only 2 words for new SR22 owners: Galloway Precision.

That being said I no modify mine and it does eat anything

I should add that Ruger offers no warranty of any kind so that did affect my decision to get a service plan.
No written warranty per the manual. But they honor returns on just about any problem gun that I've read about on the Ruger forum, some second owner guns. I've owned 8 or so Rugers with no problems whatsoever.

Good to know...Im hoping I never have to find out but still good to know. Worst case scenario I get a free cleaning or two out of Gander if I get a chance to shoot the thing to the beyond dirty level.

Extenders arrived in the mail today, when I get home I'll install them and hopefully try them out tomorrow. I'll let you know my results.

Well, I got them put on last night, only took a couple of minutes. Went to PHAthis morning and it worked great. I like the extra rounds.

Now we are gonna HAVE to get together and play with my 22/45 too!!

DS

For sure,, Gonna need help figuring out a proper backstop but plenty of plinking to be had.. When ya coming up?

I wanted one of those but got her the SR22 as a "Homestead carry gun" Pretty much guarantee she wouldn't carry a 22/45.
I've got a MKII with a 3" barrel that is a hoot with a the can on it but would much rather have the grip angle as my EDC is a 1911 or two..

So far the SR22 has exceeded our expectations. I find myself carrying it when everything else is feeling heavy. Subsonics of all flavors cycle reliably which kinda surprised me.. I do need to order a thread protector, apparently Ruger didn't see a need to supply one for some reason.
