I received my approved form 4 last week after about 320 days of waiting. Going to pick it up Monday and have them install the Xeno brake and adapter for me. This is my only suppressor and will likely always live on the same rifle. If I ever get adventurous and install it on a different rifle, it will be with a Xeno brake. A couple of questions for this newb...

Would you have the shop use Rocksett when installing the adapter into the back of the suppressor? LGS says yes on muzzle device to barrel but no on adapter to suppressor. I can't think of a good reason not to, especially with my use of this particular suppressor.

Any tips and tricks for preventing the suppressor from carbon locking to the Xeno brake? Should I remove it and clean the adapter to brake threads periodically?

Anything else I should think about? Thanks in advance.

Also @starquestbd22 unless they’re doing it for free, I wouldn’t pay a shop to “install” a muzzle device. I know sometimes things can seem complicated because it’s probably an expensive firearm you’re dealing with and afraid to mess it up, but you’d literally be paying someone to unscrew one thing and screw another thing on.

And it’s like 15 bucks for a lifetime supply of rocksett.

I disagree with everybody above. 😎

I’d Rocksett the adapter to the can, and just torque the muzzle device to the barrel.

I would not rock set any of it and just good and tight on everything

If he’s only using Xeno muzzle devices, no reason to take a chance the adapter ever loosens from the can.

I’ve never had a QD muzzle device loosen, and have never used any type of thread locker. On the other hand, I have had modular cans loosen at the joints.

I agree with this and glad im not alone 😅. No reason not to rockset the xeno adapter to the can. I also just torque my muzzle devices down guttentight, you could add rockset here as well but I don't really think it's necessary, atleast it hasn't been an issue for me.

As far as carbon lock goes, the xeno is a taper system and as long as you tighten it down well, the heat of the system should only tighten that taper lock. Using the keymo system which is also a taper mount, I haven't had any issues with Carbon. Heat locking from mounting a hot can on a cold muzzle, or a cold can on a hot muzzle is a different story though.

Using YHM Phantom QD mounts.

I don’t use Rocksett on anything, but I’m also a heathen that doesn’t stake castle nuts or use alignment rods.

Torque to spec with clean threads, no threadlocker, my muzzle devices stay put. No rockset on adapter to body of the can, came loose during firing.

So, my preference is:

Muzzle device - dry, torque to spec
All adapters to suppressor bodies - rockset
Direct thread to muzzle - teflon gas tape, no threadlocker

Same here. Well, except I don’t torque to spec. I just tighten it down. 🙄

I forget where I got it from, but I started using yellow pipe tape instead of thread locker. Seems to work great.

I got it from this site…I think @Zbizzle911 was the one that I saw post it.

Definitely can’t (and don’t need to) use as many wraps due to thickness, but it works great.

I have not yet put any kind of thread locker on my muzzle to hold the host device. I think when I very first started a mount started turning because i had a lot of oil on the threads and didn't torque very tight. I corrected myself and never had any more problems.

I did have a suppressor lock on just one time. I was magdumping in the rain, taking the suppressor on and off a few times, the can started rusting because it was not coated with anything. it was a bad day. I corrected myself (got the can coated by the manufacturer) and never had any more problems.

changing out the mounts that screw into the back of the cans... i'm a bit newer to that. I only had one 9mm can before, but it only came off for cleaning. Now I got hub stuff, but no problems so far ... but i also haven't been shooting much because i'm poor now

Thanks for the info everyone. A few of you nailed my concern. I don’t want the suppressor body working its way loose from the adapter. Anything I would ever put the suppressor on would have a Xeno muzzle device so I can’t see any reason not to semi permanently attach the Xeno adapter to the suppressor.

Thinking about the muzzle device, I have another concern. This is a new build and if it doesn’t run well and I need to install an adjustable gas block to tune it, I won’t be able to without removing the muzzle device, will I?

Yellow teflon tape is made for steam applications. It’s thicker than standard teflon tape and has a higher heat tolerance.
I thought it was for gas? (Propane, natural gas, etc). I know that’s what we used when I replaced my (natural gas) water heater.

I mean technically steam is a gas, but to me that would also indicate some heat resistant properties, which wouldn’t be a bad thing in this situation. Although, we’re not really concerned with anything leaking.

You are correct - It is used for gas (primary application), as well as fuel. I noted steam because of the higher temps that are associated with supperessors.

Why did it take so long for the form 4? Ive waited 10 months for paper before but since Efile with EFT became available its literally blazing speed.

If you think you may in the future use the can across multiple barrels or calibers with adapters go ahead and make a small investment in guide rods to check can-bore alignment. I purchased these for .223 and .30 to check can alignment. Out of several installs I found one that was out and the rod touched the can lip. This particular barrel didnt have a large seat at the end of the thread like all the others. You want the rod to be a close slip fit to the bore and chamfer/polish the ends before use. The rod should ideally be in center of your can when placed into the bore vertically.
If you have the adapter professionally installed then im sure they will check that 😉….

Everyone has their own preferences but I always remove the can “once cooled” after use for bore cleaning and store it separately. Always check (with protective gloves!) that your can is tightly fastened.

What caliber are you running with?

I do not know why it took so long. It was my first NFA application. Not sure if that makes a difference. Also, every ATF background check I have ever had has been delayed. Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes days. I do not know why. There is nothing in my background or criminal history that would warrant a flag.

The shop that I purchased the suppressor from installed the Xeno muzzle device and adapter at no charge. But I have been reading up on checking alignment and eyeballing the Huxwrx alignment rods.

The current host is a 300blk. I might get adventurous some day and try it on 5.56 just for fun but it was really intended to live on the 300. Also currently watching for the YHM R9 to come back in stock for a PCC.
