New to long range/precision shooting...School me

Maybe the better option because of the adjustability. The RPR was the real game changer because of this and the fact of the AR barrel nut. The end user didn't have to go buy a new stock or send rifle off to a gunsmith.

I can't contest to the RPR22 accuracy...it would be hard to be a CZ..anything is other than a Auschwitz stock for stock.

Typical of his kind? What is that suppose to mean? You don't what I have seen or shot. I will say more than most people, running the South's largest outdoor public range, with 1,300 + members, I've shot just about anything that has been made, and a bunch that you will never see, unless you train with Military and other high end operators like I do.........

I know this is a lot, but I do plenty of research before dropping cash on a new piece of steel. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I run (7) .308's in my aresenal of training rifles for my long range schools here in NC, about 2hrs 45 mins east of Winston Salem. I have over 5,000rds through each one and they still shoot sub moa with Black Hills Some are under $1,000 minus the Vortex Viper Scope. Feel free to call me and discuss at 919-605-8350. We can get a lot more covered over the phone. Or let me know how local you are to my range and I will bring some out for you to view and shoot.

Price point of $338 dealers cost. Most are retailing at $400.00 out the door. Yes I shot the Tikka, VooDoo and a crap load of other rimfires. We shoot out to 500yds at my range, and 300yds in the matches. I hate to say it out performs my CZ455, ($1,000+) in it. With the chassis options just like the RPR Centerfires, it's more decked out than MPA's $1,200 similar design. Yes I shot that too before it came out. Maybe you should check out my IG page and the 1/4" spinner rack at 50yds. It's a great entry level rifle for $400.00
I could care less what anyone shoots, I don't get paid by Ruger or any of the other companies that I have helped design guns for, or when Guns and Ammo and other magazines come to my place and we do reviews. That's typical of my kind. We don't do it for the money....[/QUOTE]

Actually shot one yesterday. Solid rifle, especially for the money. In the few hours I spent with it, I couldn’t get it to shoot as well as my Savage or my CZ.

Knowing what I know about Tikka, I expect it to be a bit better. I’m just a guy though, I don’t hang out with operators.

Is there any news about when someone who is just a guy might be able to actually no kidding buy the Tikka?

I haven’t “berated” anything that you said. I simply made a statement that was in reference to your comment that the Ruger was “better” than another gun that you likely have no first hand experience with. I can respect your bias as you say you had a hand in “designing” the Ruger, however that doesn’t make it “better”. It just makes it your preference. I prefer Toyota trucks, my preference doesn’t make them any “better” than what someone else may like. Even if I did design it.

The “typical of his kind” comment is solely derived from your attitude on social media. Your range is bigger, your gun is better, your classes are better, if it involves you, it’s better regardless of what it is....Narcissism at it’s very best.

I'm not saying things haven't changed, but when precision rifles comes to mind, Ruger is not in the picture.

She has won 2 club matches and the guardian in ladies Division. 2nd place finish at pigg river in ladies. And I believe 20th out of 80 shooters overall in the last match. Is the rpr the greatest rifle? Heck no. But it works

Ok. Paul has a lot of knowledge and love for the sport. I'm thankful that he has put up a range of its caliber close to where I live. I'e known him for 6 years and anytime I've had a question about gear he would let me barrow whatever he had so I could test to see if I would like it and he would tell me the pros and cons. And god knows how much money I've dumped on cheap Chinese scopes when he told me to buy quality stuff.

Like Tommy boy said. "You can get a good look at a steak by sticking your head up a bulls a$$ but id rather take the butchers word for it" I think i got that right! Lol

Tell me about it. I got the gun for her awhile ago and she never would compete. I finally talked her into after she had taken some classes and done a lot of practice. Now she has ran with it and took my freaking razor gen II and now I'm stuck with the Bushnell dmrII. But at least it has the h59 which helps me because I do a lot of hold over mostly

Not being a jerk but aren’t u new to shooting long range? My question is why are you disrespecting someone with Paul’s experience? This guy has shot it all and I just bought a Rpr rimfire and it shoots cci standard velocity mighty fine and punches the same hole at 50 yards all day remember it’s the Indian not the arrow 99% of the time.

I have, and have shot, mostly the 168 SMK. So, impressed with the much higher BCs (and performance) of these Alco projectiles, I did a search on an ammo supplier website that turned up zilch. Also then did a control+f search on gunbot ammo finder, that yielded nothing. From his spreadsheet chart, I see that the 200g and 210g bullets' BCs are .774 & .813

Are there any factory loads with Alco projectiles, or are they just sold for handloading (for which I keep thinking will be my next learning endeavor)?

Black Hills is what I run in all of my rentals in my long range class. Factory barrels 1:12 26”. My new comp rig is a 30” 1:11 and the Berger 185 Juggernauts are insane. I have 4.9” group at 1,000yds. Plenty of my members are on here to verify. The 175 black hills I gave to a member today and second shot impact at 1,000yd. Wind got her on the first. For factory loads we shot every brand out there and the BH worked best for what we run. Reloads. Bergers. I have a reloading class in July as well.
 
I don't think this is much of an answer to my question. Black Hills is an ammo brand, which as I check their website, don't employ the Alco bullet.

Yeah just offering alternatives since you can’t fix them anywhere? What’s your end goal? Competition or just messing around? I have some range members who are on Team USA and shoot around the world. Berger is their bullet of choice. I’ve tried a lot and I keep coming back to them. For .308’s easy to find. With SD’s of 2.7 and ES of 7 for a .308? Doesn’t get much better than that

I appreciate the knowledge dump as much as the next guy. But, you quoted my post to brag about your "comp rig" and plug your range & training business. And/or you've got some stock in Black Hills. It's a simple and specific question (rephrased): is there any factory ammo known to use this Alco projectile, in any of the 4 weights shown on Rex's graph?

If you don't know the answer, "I don't know" is a valid response.
