Toilet paper (why???)
Bottled water
Meat/groceries
Ammo (.223, 9mm, .22)

Next up... gas cans.

Most stores from Concord Mills to Mooresville are sold out of 5 gal gas cans. Not entirely sure why since gas is cheap and plentiful, and demand for gas is poised to actually decline given school closures, “work from home” plans, and the inevitable business closures.

I asked a TP hoarder why they were hoarding TP, and their answer was "because!!!". Basically they hadn't through it through, had no idea what they were doing other than following the panic.

As long as the grid is up, the only one that really makes sense is the food. I mean, yea, we have months (years, whatever some of you are crazy :) ) worth of survival food, but wouldn't you rather eat normal stuff as long as possible?

If the grid goes down, then gas and an '73 Ford Falcon become priorities.

I have not been worried.

I work from home and I cook dinner every night for my family. Almost every day, I go to the grocery store and I buy just the ingredients I need to cook dinner that day.

Today, I went to the grocery store to buy dinner ingredients. The grocery store was half way stripped bare...

I am not going to lie... I filled up a grocery cart full of food that I hadn't planned to buy... But, I thought, what if there's no food next week?

On the drive home, I thought, "Man, I just bought $180 worth of food, just in case! That's crazy! "

I had a similar reaction when I stopped for milk Thursday. It was a madhouse. I ended up grabbing a bunch of meat, pasta, and some other things that will keep well, but nothing crazy, only $80.

Went to Shulers in Thomasville to get some ribs today. The line to check out of that little store was longer than the store! Plenty good meat there though.

I'm better off than most. I own 30 acres full of deer and squirrels (out of season but shtf, season be damned, you know? )

A few days ago, my 8yo daughter asked me what we will do if we run out of food and I said, "We have 16 chickens, a turkey, and 8 goats outside. We won't starve. "

And that still wasn't enough to keep me from impulse buying food at the store today...

We keep a decent pile of long term stuffs on hand, but went out for our typical bi weekly perishable grocery shopping this weekend. My wife, who was clueless and oblivious to the whole affair, got a little panicked when I told her we might be quarantined at some point. Her stock up items? Daquari mix, Funfetti cake mix, Star Crunch, Lil' Bites, Symphony Bars, and Fruity Pebbles.

I have no idea how this girl stays a buck 10.

Edit to add: I picked up a dozen Zagnuts.

I'm filling mine with ethanol free for my lawnmower, pressure washer and motorcycles. $2.30 is damn good

zagnuts a man after my own heart

I never knew about them until maybe a year ago. I was deep into one of my heavy Chick-O-Stick binges, when my wife mentioned I should try a Zagnut. I had no idea what they were until I tore that wrapper off. It was like a tender, oh so soft Chick O Stick, but way bigger and even better!

We hit the Harry teeter on 501 coming back from Hillsborough yesterday. We were shocked, no bread, no can goods, etc... We got our normal weekly stuff though. Spaghettios were on sale so we got some extra ;)

I stopped at the ABC store in Pittsboro today and the parking lot was full at 3pm. The guy behind the counter said it had been that busy for the last week, but the shelves were full :D

Sounds like you married my teenage daughter. Pig!

I’ve heard rumors from three credible sources today about .gov imposing a quarantine/curfew within the next two days.
I went to a couple stores this afternoon and bought the last 2 dozen eggs (yes they were organic, that’s why they were the last), the last 2 chocolate bars, the last 2 ibuprofen bottles, still no poop paper or rubbing alcohol.

If you like chicks that eat like carnival workers, you'd be in heaven. She enjoys eating cereal while she's in the bathtub; I'm sure that's somebody's fetish.

Turns out that may be true... and we both learned something today.

I don't know about a fetish, but sounds like a lot of fun for a two day bender...

Well no surprise if it starts anywhere it would be New Jersey ...
https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-jersey-state-national-guard-coronavirus-spread
It starts with a notion of good intention ...
Gov. Phil Murphy. D-N.J., announced Monday he will be mobilizing the state's National Guard to combat the spread of coronavirus "in any way necessary."

The drastic step, usually reserved for natural disasters or emergencies, is part of a slew of tightened restrictions for New Jersey residents that state officials hope will quash the spread of COVID-19.
But then there is a hint of ...
Murphy also announced that New Jersey will be one of increasing number of states mandating that all restaurants and bars close to dine-in customers and only offer takeout or delivery. Also, movie theaters, casinos, gyms, night clubs, fitness centers, and racetracks will be forced to close beginning at 8 p.m. on Monday.

The governor has also advised against all nonessential travel from New Jersey between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily.
That last sentence is sure pointing at opening up the curfew thing in NJ ...

My wife is going to try to do our grocery shopping tomorrow. We’ve got a decent stash of meat and ramen noodles if things get more out of hand. I told her last week if we start running low on meats the chickens, duck and goose she just got would be on the table. I didn’t bag a deer this season but I’d quarantined there’s likely to be some venison in my freezer if the chance comes up.

I put 2 5 gal gas cans in the back of the wife’s Jeep. She needs to be in Raleigh for a few days this week and while it made little sense I thought that she had extra space so why not.

Bought some brown rice. I like brown rice, just haven’t eaten it in a decade or more. Harris Teeter was running out of meat, but ribs were on sale so I bought 5 racks. The veggies had been hit hard.

Liquor delivery is tomorrow.

I had noticed the gas cans because I specifically went to go buy one. Three stores later I just ordered online.

my reason is that I have none. I had a few collected over time when living in my house, but gas cans didn’t make the cut for relocation.

figured some extra gas is one of those things that’s better to have and not need, when there’s so much chaos obfuscating a clear picture of the near future.

Lets call it “balancing out my preps”. I’m not a mega prepper, but I always try to divert some discretionary income toward things that would benefit me if reality became real nasty.

Hit the store yesterday and it is getting closer to the way my East German relatives used to describe things. No eggs, paper products, potatoes. Milk was 1 per customer. Lots of ham, apples, cheese. Almost no beef, chicken.

I went to Food Lion on Sunday evening. Totally out of milk, toilet paper, rubbing alcohol, and beef.

Canned goods, and dry rice/beans were in pretty good shape at that time. On my way home from work, I drove by the same Food Lion, and the parking lot was packed to the gills. At the rate that folks are buying things up, I'm expecting we're going to see some serious shortages in the coming weeks.

We went out to dinner last night to one of our favorite spots. I talked with the bar tender a bit. The place was dead. This establishment is usually filled and the clientele is decidedly right wing.

His only concern is the government forcing them to close. He’s got enough money to live off of for 6 months if he’s frugal but, like me, that was supposed to be for a real emergency not a manufactured one.

So the only fear that I have is of our government during this “crisis” and that seems to be the consensus among those I’ve spoken with.

Was reminded yesterday that if the grocery stores around you are out of paper products, Lowes and Home Depot carry paper towels and stuff. So there is always that.

Went to FL last night and for the first time ever I thought this is as close to I’ve seen to a real SHTF situation. Meat, milk, toiletry items gone. Canned foods hit hard no rice very little flour no bread.

I was there more out of curiosity then needing anything. I still dropped another 80bucks though

I have a teeny piece of land, but I've started to look at some deer that bounce around in my woods....as potential dinner! LoL. I'd have to nail them with a handgun, though.....not sure how that would go.

Right now the fridge and freezer are stocked, and I have a lot of canned stuff. So the deer are safe....for now! lol.
