So grabbed the crossbow this morning and went for a quick hunt before work. I had shot a big nanny doe on Monday with the ML on another property and lost it, so I was ready to kill one today.

Early around 6:45am I heard some rustling to my left, and this small 8 walked out of the bushes. I stopped him with a mouth bleat just to look at him and realized it was the one I had on camera checking for hot does. I ALMOST let him walk, since I knew I would tag out on bucks. But due to the property situation I decided to ground check him instead [emoji16] He looked around but about 5 sec later he was in full rut pursuit and started walking toward the cornfield. I stopped him when he turned more broadside, put the top dot on his vitals, and send one straight thru the kill zone at 15yds. I am using a knockoff rage hypo, and it cut 2.5in entry and a 2in exit. Hit right lung and cut the bottom of the heart.

Now the crazy part. I heard him crash thru the brush and into the cornstalks. I waited 25-30 mins after not hearing anything, cocked the bow and nocked another arrow and climbed down.

When i got to the field edge, I saw another deer running around and realized it was a smaller 6 point that I have on camera. He circled the field, then turned toward me and started running toward me! I was like wtf this deer is crazy, so i ducked for cover and moved to another spot. I didnt want to kill this deer in self defense lmao. After a few seconds waiting in him to come gore me, i looked and he was attacking something on the ground: my dead deer!
I had to yell and wave my hat at him to get him to run off. I managed to get some video

Yeah, they get a little crazy. Never had that happen. But I had a dead doe on the ground draw one in several years ago. I dropped her about 30 minutes earlier and he came in to check her out. He didn't like what he found, I kinda did though.

It was a great morning. Then I got to eat breakfast, clean out a cooler, clean him and stick him and 32lbs of ice in it. Guess this one will be processed next weekend since tomorrow is my wedding anniversary.

He was STINKY, full rut, black hocks, etc. Glad to see them finally moving around near me and these cold temps today and thru Sunday will be some prime hunting time in Central NC :D

Glad you made it out safe. I’m stoked to see what tomorrow brings, first year we’ve had a decent buck on camera.

How did you do at the Pee Dee? I have not even put in the last couple of years as it got to where I was not seeing any deer.

My son killed 2, a small doe and a spike. My wife almost shot a doe at dusk on Saturday. And i caught a glimpse of a huge buck who wouldnt stop or give me a shot at around 200yds. Im going back in the late archery season and see if I can get a setup on him [emoji6][emoji1018]

Its definitely not like it used to be but I still love access to all that acreage.
