Ouch...I tell folks that when they see deer on both sides of the road they better tie it down because 99 out of 100 times they will all try to get to the same side of the road before you get there.

And you do not know which group is going where if not both groups swapping places or changing there mind in a split second

Ouch least you were not like a neighbor that stopped for a big buck a few years ago in the road and the buck charged the car and tore the grill out of it with car owner sitting still in the middle of the road.

Any jerky being made? Lol

Jk... sorry for your accident.

I slowed down to avoid hitting a nice buck once and he turned toward my vehicle as I approached. Luckily he continued on, but made it clear if I got closer he was going to hit me.

I was following a car one morning. A buck crossed the road in front of this car. Got the shoulder of the road and turned around and went back across the road in front of the same car. Somebody needed to go home and change clothes

Glad you did not have any personal injury.

I come close to hitting them, I drive home 2-3AM from work daily.
I drop my speed down when I drive past their hangouts, plus new home construction forces them out,
came very close to a huge alpha male, he was running towards me in the car, I was able to slow a bit
and then turn into the opposite lane, no cars but me, and he got lucky that night.
Told my wife if I hit him I wold have figured a way to drag him home and have him hanging on the tree in the front yard,:)
my neighbor would have helped me to cut him up, he has lots of experience in that area.

As far a deer stories I got one only people who truly understand deer mentality believe. A bout 10 or so years back I was heading home right at dusk on 501 North with a little Civic about 1/4 mile ahead of me. It was just after Thanksgiving and I saw NICE buck trotting across the field and slowed but the driver of the Civic didn’t seem to have and just maintained his speed, lane, etc. It was not 5 seconds after I saw that buck he bolted straight for the road ... and the damn buck ran into the Civic smack in the rear passenger door. Yep, the deer ran into the car full speed! He did not jump or anything just right into that Civic. The guy stopped and I did also. Amazingly the deer was only knocked himself loopy and got up and stumbled back across the field. The worst for wear was that rear door on the Civic ... glass shattered and it was knock in at least 6-8” ... the upper door frame was bent out a couple inches from the roof. The guy said he didn’t see it and until I told him he didn’t know what hit him. I wish I one of today’s dash cams and America’s Funniest Videos had still been on TV ...

Oooof. Isn’t that Tacoma essentially brand new too? That sucks. But glad your ok.

They’re getting more and more wild round here. I haven’t tagged one yet. But several friends have. I swear they only cross the road in blind curves...

Came around the corner just before dawn one morning. Doe just standing there. Lock it up. Slide up and literally touch her with the bumper before I stop. She still just stood there. Honk and yell move your ass! She reanimates, jumps and goes tearing off into the field:rolleyes: If I had been doing daytime speed it would have been bad.

Another time, another blind corner. Car stopped in other lane as we come out. I have time to process it and just start applying the brakes. Boom, doe and two older fawns (spots almost gone) appear in the middle of my lane.

Mom jumps the corner of the hood, both younguns disappear below hoodline. Since I’ve slammed on the brakes, the rebar bender in the back slides up and slams the back of the bed. I have just a split second to glance in the mirrors and see a flash of brown on either side of the truck. Then see one jump the guardrail, the other hauling ass after mom. All that in the blink of an eye.

My buddy just knows we obliterated them as I pull over to check my pants and remind him about the bender and that it was what made the impact. One zigged, the other zagged and it saved us all. The one was so close it wiped a clean spot off the mud on the bumper corner:eek: But no impact at all.

I got one in my suburban a couple years ago on New Year’s Eve going about 65 near @Jp8819 house. Never seen one slide that far down the shoulder of the road before

Took one the the brush guard this fall going down I-85, rolled it out into the other four lanes. I never even slowed down

Saw another huge buck last week, he was just standing in the turn lane near Rex hospital in Raleigh. He waited for me to drive by then just walked to the other side. Guess that's why he was huge. ;)

City deer learned to look for traffic

2017....26,000 miles

I figured the loss from them being hit by two cars and then 2 124gr+p HSTs each... probably was not alot left to salvage... however when I went by the next day they were gone...so someone picked them up.

I had been talking about picking up a lo profile winch bumper...now strongly reconsidering that...if most of the shops didn't have 6-12 week turn around on bumpers I'd be ordering one and making a deal with the body shop.

A ranch hand was not my 1st consideration for bumpers, is just not the look that I normally go for. But the truck came with it and honestly it's saved the truck twice now, so I'm a big believer in big bulky metal bumpers.

Winch bumper saved me on one of the ones I hit so not a bad thing. It was a cheaper warn winch mount for a 12k winch that was on truck when I got it but luckly hit the winch plate and folded the doe up underneath the truck and came out the back never even saw it till it hit. Other ran into side just in front of rear tire but just caused a small dent and popped most of it out.
