Bought a Redding neck sizing die for my 6.5 Creedmoor. When it arrived, I grabbed a scrap case and sized it.
It had no resistance on the upstroke, so I grabbed the calipers, measured the neck @.281. hmmmm.
Called Redding and told them, he said "you need to have the expander ball in it" when I told him it was, he asked me to measure it. .222
" We will mail you the correct one tomorrow"
Should I take this as a sign to get an expander mandrel? I have never seen or used one before.

My preference these days is to get a full-length bushing style sizing die (I prefer Redding) and figure out the correct neck bushing that will size 0.001" under the desired size, then use a mandrel expander. A bushing die will work the neck a lot less than a normal sizing die.

The mandrel expander I use is from 21st Century, I also use their neck-turning kit as well. Good stuff.
