NY man gunned down by suppressed pistol wielding thugs?

Wow. That crowd usually do their dirt on the down low. I'ma guess either a "business" dispute, or a turf/respect beef with a lower ranking club. The bigs don't like to draw unnecessary attention.

Headline should read “witches these days are trading toil and trouble for suppressors and death”

Yeah, that was people with some training, not your average hood shooters. exit, shooting stance, shoot, move, shoot, work as a team. If you watch closely, you'll see the driver raising his muzzle only to have passenger start crossing his line of fire, which causes him to briefly point his muzzle back down before bringing it up again to fire. Compare that to countless videos of chicago hood shooters doing wild one handed shooting while running, hitting everything but the person they're aiming for

With the lighter skin you can just barely see between the mask and hoodie, I'm guessing it has something to do with central/south american military trained gang members.
The area in question, if it matters

Also, that's only a mile from where my ex did her grad school. I've walked around some of that area.

Kinda looks like one of them was wearing plates

No great loss. No worse than a hit on the head of the Bloods or Cripts.

Russian Mafia maybe?

Jeep Cherokee in NY? Surprised the rotted unibody held up to the drive.

A couple of people are going to have their stamps pulled. Despite the barrel extensions, I presume people on the scene said shots were muffled. I wonder how muffled. Nevertheless, I don't understand the rationale for a suppressed weapon in broad daylight in front of witnesses.

So their ears don’t ring?

If I was to pull my AR pistol in broad daylight in front of witnesses, I’d be shooting suppressed.

Why? The sound of heavy gunfire will usually send the uninitiated diving for cover or trying to get out of Dodge. If they know you've got noise... That's why swat tosses in their firecrackers.

Why do I not want my ears to ring? Because hearing loss doesn’t come back. Same reason I wear ear plugs when cutting the grass.

There’s still gonna be a sonic crack, so it’s not going to be quiet.

One other thing that surprised me was that the rear of the vehicle was caught on camera. I don't know enough about it but I'd think that some good camera work could pull up the plate number but I guess it was stolen. Anybody have any experience with something like that? I know nothing about it.

Remember, the sound of unsuppressed guns travels a LONG way. Inside of a concrete environment line NYC, it could be a big echoey mess. Shoot subsonics and your noise will blend into the sound of heavy traffic (~85-90dB) almost immediately. You can bet that most of the nearby people in cars with their windows up and music bumping didn't hear a thing.

not if they're using 147gr 9mm
I make it a habit to mow my lawn wearing ear pro, then take it off to shoot suppressed as a little reward :-D
I'll keep foamies in for shooting the suppressed 5.56 because yeah that sonic crack. But if i'm shooting subsonic 300 through a can, nah.

Hmmmm...wish I’d thought of that. :p

I was taking his question as directed at me (since he quoted me) and my choice to carry a suppressed AR pistol. Mine is 5.7x28, which is why I answered the way I did.

DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT 5.7X28. I saw a sweet deal on a ps90 get posted up in MI and directed a friend back up there on how to haggle down to pick it up, telling him that if he didn't want to keep it or couldn't afford to, i'd happily reimburse him and take it off his hands (via approved methods involving an FFL and all that...)
That was months ago and he's still not taking me up on that reimbursement offer. Jackhole hasn't even shot it yet. but "waaah waah, there's a super deadly corona outbreak in MI and i'm too close to bad parts of the state. it would be better than my 9mm and easier than my WASR. waah waah"
not really angry. he wanted the fns2000 forever but that was well outside his price range. If he keeps and enjoys it, yay guns. if not, i'll probably get it in his will :)

News reported that plate was stolen.

I found it interesting that they fled the scene making two lefts.

Suppressors may defeat the gunshot detection system installed in NYC, and likely slow the response even from nearby “bodyguards” whose first thought as windows shatter without hearing shots might be “wtf” rather than “we’re being shot at”

well, as a result of reading and viewing this post, i went down the "rabbit hole" of Google
to look up recently reported MC "gang" activity, and it appears to me that a "gang war"
is brewing, so this was just a sample of the escalation to come.
