Can't get out to look properly yet, but the wife and I were getting the chickens in the coop as the storm was starting a few minutes ago.
Huge wind, loud prolonged cracking and a giant piece of pecan fell on it. Maybe. It appears so.

Guess I'll be able to check soon.

We had some pretty big flooding. Our bridge was covered on Wed and Thurs. Hay fields are muddy brown now. Upstream there was big erosion damage on two other bridges. One just had $100k worth of repair/replacement work done on it.
This is some crappy weather. Hope you don't have a ton of damage.

Hope it's not too much damage. The storm hit here at 6pm....lots of wind and rain, no thumps on anything outside, though, some dead branches lying around is all. I was lucky.

I looked at the weather radar and it showed 625pm estimated- it hit about 610-615pm. I had just finished hanging new chicken feeders, put up my tools and came up from the barn. I had even had the fleeting thought that I could wait out the initial onslaught of the storm in the barn if it hit before I finished. Thank God I didn't, I doubt I'd have survived the beating Mrs would have given me for frightening her.

Much appreciated- and you'd been able to take home plenty of dry, seasoned pecan, still have a metric butt-ton.

Definitely be calling my insurance agent on Tuesday...
I'll check and see if I can start the claim online too.
It's not much, but it serves us well, or did. Main part of the building may still be salvaged.

    Hey....about that firewood...lol.

Saw the pics on the wife's FB page...dang that sucks man. Glad you weren't in it at the time. That storm was killer. Watched it on time lapse cameras when I got to work...within 3 minutes went from sunshine to full blown can't see 10 feet to a light drizzle.....it was pretty wild. All the hood rats ran like mad to cover.

Well, I hope everything goes as well as submitting the claim, lol.
Downloaded their app, answered a few questions, uploaded pictures of the barn. Now wait and see.
That's the hard part-waiting- I want to get started cutting it up and retrieve all my tools etc. Guess I'll need some sort of storage option too.

And thanks all for the kind words!

A little Zen time this morning-

I took a chance and opened the barn door this morning- the risk was not being able to close it again.
But, all was good with the door despite the huge ass trees on the other end of the barn. Proceeded to get all of my hand power tools out, in case it did decide to collapse. Got the lawn mower out too along with the yard cart. Then took a video showing all the remaining tools still mounted to the bench, and under the bench.
Had to leave the generator in there, along with everything in the "office" room like the rototiller. Jeez I have a lot of shit.
Measured the outside of the barn for reference later.
Cut branches that were covering the open end of the barn, where all my dry wood is stored.
Oldest daughter and her boyfriend showed up, so we built a hasty lean-to off the back porch to shield the mower from the weather.
    I'm pooped.

Glad you at least were able to salvage some items!

Is insurance going to lessen the loss?

Anyone ever dealt with VMS and Concrete? They're between Asheboro and Greensboro it appears...not sure they even work over here.

Will they even cover the barn. After they depreciate it for age, you’ll owe them money.

The person I talked to seem to think so- I've owned the place for ten years; the house was built in 1960 and she asked how old the barn was. I told her I didn't know.
Wouldn't they have told me when I bought the house it was too old to cover? My policy is supposed to be for replacement cost, at least the house and contents.

Does anyone have a recommendation regarding shipping containers, ie where is the best place to get one? My tree guy is not real confident that the barn will stay up once he starts removing some of the pieces of tree. I'd like to get everything of value out of the barn in case it all goes down and not just the open area.
Also, looking into portable storage buildings as a replacement for the barn. We've looked online at ShedDepotNC, Durabuilt in Sanford & Graceland Buildings of Whiteville. Anyone in particular to stay away from?

Thankfully we've only had 2 insurance claims including this one, I'm a bit jittery that they might drop us.

If your tree guy can get a crane in you should be able to remove the branches w/o more damage to the barn.

usually outbuildings are limited to 10% of the value of the house.

Re container sourcing, see what’s available on Craigslist. Insulated is best, and high cubes are nice for the extra space. If you’re storing mowers, etc in side, one with doors on each end is very practical.

I don't have a connection for the shipping containers any longer......the guy we knew disappeared.......lol

Portable storage buildings are available from quite a few dealers with prices all over the map in our area Mark. Let me check with a guy at work and see who his connection is because I know he has purchased several before.

I'll try him and shoot you a pm if I get any info from him. Glad you guys were not hurt in this my friend.

A guy that I got an axle from on NC4x4 in the western part of the state had recently gotten a container and was very happy with the company, delivery and placing it behind his shop, and the price. I just asked him for the contact info. He said:

    upstatecontainers.com
    864-498-4945
Curt Gunderson was who I dealt with his cell is 864-344-9430

    **long-winded update**
Over the past few days, I had rethunk just getting new storage buildings and decided to call a contractor regarding the repairs. A friend's recommendation sort of tipped the scales along with a review of the repair estimate from the insurance company.

So yesterday I called a company that does storm damage repairs. Kind lady answering the phone took all of my information and said a project coordinator would call me back.
PC called about an hour or so later. Reviewed all my info, along with my request that their estimator call ahead so I could get the dogs in beforehand.
FFWD to this morning, waiting for the call, appointment time comes and goes. I checked the gate from the window several times to see if anyone was sitting there. After 30 minutes I called the office.
Spoke to a nice guy who told me there was no contact info in their system, nor the request to call ahead. Said the estimator had been there and left, gate was locked (it's not but can be difficult for newbies). Nice guy also says he's given my info to estimator and he'll call me shortly.
After an hour, I called again and asked if there was a timeframe for estimator to call- nice guy says "he hasn't called?" He assured me that estimator would call this afternoon and I shouldn't delay my plans for the afternoon.

Estimator calls about 30 minutes later and asks when I'd like to reschedule-

    I wasn't really happy-
Further conversation with him showed nice guy in the office was not exactly being truthful, estimator claims he never said gate was locked...and so on.

I finally told him I may or may not call back...I wasn't going to beg anyone to work for me.

Going to try and cut grass now...
