I've just gotten my third shipping label from RIA, and have the 1911 9mm ready to go with the original grips on it, and am ready at last to send it off for repairs.

Has anyone gotten so attached to a gun that they hated to send it off? I think there may be a tear or two shed when I actually have to let the box go on its way....LoL.

Am I the only one who fell in love with a gun? Surely not!

Tell me your stories.....even the ones that didn't end well.

I am very fortunate in that I've never had to send one back.
Now that I've said it, I'll have six going back by next Monday lol.
And I fervently pray that you don't!

It's like my child going off to college or something.....lol.

Sent a few back over the years. My K frame Smith that my mama gave me was the toughest. I should have never shot them hot reloads my "buddy" gave me. Lesson learned. It came back all fixed up and dirty as crap. I guess they test fired it alot.

I'm hoping mine comes back, I don't care if it's dirty! Lol. If they send a replacement I might not be happy, but if it works I'll be semi-happy, I guess.....

In my case, I couldnā€™t send them off fast enough. Then came ā€œthe waitā€. ;)
I guess I got so attached because it was my first 1911....but I have the .45 now, so that helps...lol....

You will be fine, the turnaround is a lot faster then a tax stamp for a SBR or suppressor. :)
Sent a used Sig and my new Beretta Neos for service, got each back in less then five days.

Be prepared that, in the unlikely event they need to send a replacement, itā€™ll have to go to an FFL; not directly back to you. Imagine how I know that. ;)

Well, dang, you sure are full of good news, aren't you? But I did ask for all the stories, didn't I? How will this work, then? Will they choose the one nearest me or what?
And why can't they just send it to my house?

I've sent in only one gun in nearly sixty years -- my G21 Gen2 for 'factory updates' -- not because it needed anything but because the work was free.

My LGS sent it out on Tuesday and it was back in my hands the next Monday. Of course that's a Glock, and we all know what POS they are -- apparently their service is comparable. ;)

Now I have taken one in to a gunsmith to fix my ham-handed home gunsmithing; but in my defense I was only sixteen and it was a problem that was way out of my league.

Because itā€™d be a ā€œnewā€ gun with a different serial number. Same reason you canā€™t buy a gun online and have it shipped to your home.

In the case of S&W, they asked which FFL I preferred and offered to pay the relevant transfer fee.

Do I have to give it to the gun shop to mail out? I thought I could hand the labeled box to the FedEx counter in a Walgreens or have FedEx pick it up at the house....is this a no-no? I've never sent a gun away, obviously, I'm new. LOL.

Of course, if they repair and return your same gun, itā€™ll go directly to you.

Aha, got it. Well, I want my own personal 1911 back.....lol.

Have FedEx pick it up at your home. I believe youā€™re required to advise the driver thereā€™s a firearm inside (if you remember, of course ;)).

It's a soul-mate kind of thing with me. I have my one favorite go-to firearm that I know will never ever let me down.... I dropped it, racked it, fell off a log with it and she does what I ask of her every time.... I will shed a tear if something happened. So I know how you feel.

I like all my others too... but they are tools and if they can't keep up with my beating and banging on them... meh.

Ok, I'll have them get it, thanks for the advice. If I "remember" to tell them what's in the box, will they refuse to take it? I do forget stuff sometimes.....

Thanks for not telling me I'm acting like a girl!

I do love this gun, and it's not been all that reliable after it got the 5,000 rounds through it....but still, it pains me to send it off. But before the 5,000th round.....it was wonderful! I hope it will be so again, as I shoot it the best of all my guns.

I believe youā€™re only permitted to have it picked up directly from you or dropped at an actual FedEx facility (not a drug or stationary store and NOT a drop box). They canā€™t refuse but Iā€™ve been told some strange things by stupid drivers.

So far I have convinced Diamondback (pre taurus), Taurus, and S&W to send me parts.

Most of my junk gets so worked over I don't dream of warranty.
Maybe I'll do that if this gun goes tits up again after a few thousand rounds! lol.

I did get a new, free extractor from Sig not too long ago....

And sorry your junk got worked over! (Sorry, I had to!)

I sent a Henry .22 rifle back because the half-cock didn't work... they fixed it, cleaned the whole thing wood and steel, replaced the missing front sight hood, printed a label with the serial number for a new box, wrapped it in wax paper like a new gun and put it in the box with hang tags and manual... and paid for the shipping.

I'm glad they did. Turned out this Henry was from the first month of production in the Modern Henry Company, which was formed in 1996.

Think of it as merely shipping them a hammer.
Because that's really all it is until it gets fixed.

I'm encouraged by the happy stories I'm hearing, of guns fixed and sent home!

You'll have the Glock to rely on until the others get back.

Just know itā€™s not near as bad as mailing off a silencer...

Where if it gets lost or canā€™t be repaired, you have a 10+ month wait to get a replacement approved, even if they pay for the replacement and the tax stamp.

Way to make me feel better! A little better. lol.

I have another question: Shall I send them everything that came in the box when I got the gun? The paperwork says no empty cases should be sent, but two came with the gun, sealed in a little envelope. Do I send those too? Can you tell I've never sent a gun back?

Send the gun and a couple of whatever mags you were running in it.

Iā€™ve always sent just the gun (mags if the issue was mag related) and nothing else. Iā€™ve always used a plain box and padded the gun well. Last one I sent in, I even removed the grips first. They have no need for the original case, fired rounds, manual, etc.
