I've been a wee bit under the weather today, so researched how to get into cars when the keys are locked inside. Turned out I know purty much how to do that.

Then I studied up on the combination locks that we use on the Farm. Found out it may be easier to bypass the combinations than to get out the readers and turn the dials! Also, found out how to Discover the Combination on the newer locks... that's nearly as easy as using the correct combination. Now, if we have any locks for which we don't know the combination, I can open 'em and reset the combination.

Along the way, I found out how simple it is to pick some of the keyed locks. Now I'm making a small set of tools. It's amazing how easy it is, and it's kinda fun!

Anyone else fall into this skill?

I’ve been messing with picking for awhile , I don’t do it much so I lose practice. I’ve gotten in a couple but I need to make practice a regular thing. Some of our building maintenance guys at work can pick anything from a file cabinet to a deadbolt. It’s an art

Opening Master-Lock combination locks used to be simple when I was in high school. Could easily make the tool using scissors and a soda can.

Now, the locks might be just as easy to open, but soda cans are so flimsy I don’t know what you’d make the tool from!

Unwrap a AA battery. The battery skin works like a charm!

I've got a few different lock lick sets. Vibratory tool and some car jigglers etc.

For vehicles you can't beat a pump wedge and a coat hanger, I've probably broken into five cars the last year because my friends and loved ones suck at not locking keys inside.

My Dyno Kwick Pic does most door locks and has a short learning curve and I've got a Zak Tool that works well too.

I got one of the those practice sets with a clear lock at a gun show.

I need to take it out and practice.

I’m upgrading all my locks Monday morning. You live too close to me. :(

Actually I've found with the cheap picks the more expensive locks are easier. Anything they sell at a big box store is fairly easy to pick. Even for a muppet like me sometimes.

One of the locksmiths in a video said that if'n you don't spend $75 on a lock, it's junk.

Then, he said you could get a quality lock with a cheap barrel... it's junk!

That's the one thing I didn't learn... what to buy that is worth it?
