As title says, I need glass for my Noveske N6 AR10. 16" barrel. A few considerations:

1: Weight. This thing is already a pig and I plan on hanging the Chimera off the front of it whenever I shoot. I am not going with a bipod for now. I'd like to get this thing to where I can shoot it standing, off hand as well, and effective out to a couple of hundred yards. And do that for sustained periods. Yes, I can hit the gym, but I'd at least like weight to be a consideration.

2: Magnification. When I actually do get to shoot (which is so little as is), I don't have anywhere to take the gun past maybe 250 yards. No biggie. However if the time comes, I'd like to have something that can stretch to 300-400. I know this thing isn't 6.5 or one of the other more distant friendly rounds, but the cartridge is more than capable for what I'd be doing recreationally (and you know, for any zombie apocalypse).

3: Cost. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for", however I also believe in "don't drink the koolaid", as in just because a certain piece may be $3-4K doesn't make it better than the right $1,500-$2,000 optic.

4: Reticle. Jesus Flicking Christ why are there so many damn choices and one offs? I mean my God, you can get everything from a damn small triangle with two lines running down to something that looks like the math and charts from my hardest Physics test in college.

So having said all of the above, I've research offerings from Trijicon, Nightforce, Leupold, US Optics, Vortex, Kahles, Steiner, SB, etc. I really am overwhelmed and overall under enthused to the point that I am considering just waiting until the Razor HD GEN IIs go back down to $899 and throwing a 1-6 on it. In all honesty, it would probably serve me very well. I could pull my current one off me PWS to try and see how the magnification makes me feel at 250, but I know the answer (pretty damn good). What I don't know is how I'd feel much past that or heaven forbid I get into dialing or hold overs.

So what say you all? I am really intrigued by some of the 2-10 or 2.5-10 offerings from Nightforce and USO, but given how much I like the Razor HD, there 3-18 offerings could be great for the money (if not overkill). But they weigh so damn much! I also read that the Leupold VX6 with Firedot was a nice one for the money and only weighs like 17 ounces (most I am looking at are in the high 20s, nearly 30 ozs).

HELP!

Will be a lot of opinions here...

I have a Larue PredatAR 7.62...weighs in at just under 8 lbs unloaded...I purchased a Trijicon VCOG 1-6x24 (Green Segmented Circle Reticle)...weight w/mount is about 1/2 lb...so about 8.5lbs total weight unloaded. This particular VCOG runs about $1800.

I have a Trijicon Accupower 1-4 on one of my ARs and I love it. Farthest I’ve shot with it was 300 and I had no trouble at all. It’s pretty lite weight too.

Trijicon TR25-C (Mildot or Duplex would be my choices). 1-6x, 19oz

The Trijicon 1-8 Accupower is nice but has a 34mm tube and is rather heavy (25oz no mount)

I have used my TA11J out to 500yards no problem (3.5x35 ACOG)

The NF NX8 I’ve heard mixed reviews on, from varied brightness levels on side by side NX8s, the center dot is 1.25 MOA which starts to cover up targets out past 400. I’m trying to find a post somewhere I read where a guy sold his fairly quickly and why...$1700 isn’t exactly the cheapest (but it’s no ATACR price range either)

The Steiner T5Xi is a nice choice. 1-5x24mm, 30mm tube, 21oz. Decent reticle, solid clicks on the turrets, VERY bright optic in terms of glass clarity. On sale at Optics Planet for $1462 now

Razor will do everything you want and do it better than just about anything else. I personally like to have 1X on anything I that doesn't sit on a bench, and that I might shoot offhand or run and gun with. And, the 1x on the Razor is sublime. Simple reticle, daylight bright center dot. There's a reason they are so popular in 3gun, which generally is out to 450-500 max.
The VX-6 is sweet, too.
Hard to go wrong with either of those choices.
Just my opinion.

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to slap the 1-6 Razor on it and see how I like it. Then maybe just get a P4Xi Steiner to go on my PWS. Or if I think the Noveske needs more magnification, maybe look at something 1-8.

I should have mentioned, I am not a fan of ACOGs. I don't shoot nose to charge handle so the eye relief really doesn't work for me, at least not in a non-SBR platform. I don't have enough time behind my SBR AR15s or 300 Blackout to know about them yet.

The TA11 series that John and I mentioned have the most forgiving eye relief of the entire line. NTC shooting is not at all required

I'm going to weigh it here in a bit.

Of course as soon as I swapped it over I found a deal on a used ACOG TA11C that was just serviced by Trijicon. Looks like I could get it with a TA50 mount and scope cover for $600...

MEH. Razor does everything it does, only better.

As long as you're not trying to measure your groups, pretty much anything 15x or less would work great at 250.

Once I figure out how to adjust the magnification on this thing...

Exactly. No 1x is a deal killer for me.

What does it do better than a Razor?

Here are Pros to the ACOG TA11 model (from my experience):

The glass is extremely bright and clear (not saying the Razor isn’t, just remarking on it). The reticle is idiot proof and making first round hits/kills is more of a rule rather than an exception. The TA11 ACOG is a fantastic choice for a fighting carbine. It’s 7.5oz lighter than the Razor Gen II-E, and 11.2oz lighter than the regular Gen II 1-6. That’s a substanial difference. It doesn’t require batteries and has dual “power” sources.

Cons:
Fixed magnification (for some people this isn’t ideal)
Not battery operated so the reticle brightness is what it is without a field expedient solution (mini chem light taped over the fiber optic)
Ocular lens/picture isn’t nearly as large as the Razor II.
Getting a new tritium lamp after 10-15 years can be pricey.
Vortex has a better warranty...lifetime no matter what

About as fair as you can get. Good points.

Edit: I guess another pro would be that it looks much easier to fit a rear sight, of that is a concern.
