Protect your HOA status: 2018 Ford Mustang GT gets 'quiet' mode

The 2018 Ford Mustang GT is getting an available multimode exhaust when deliveries start this fall. That’s good for the track and strip, but not great when you give your neighbor a 6 a.m. wakeup call day, after day, after day. That’s what happened to former head of vehicle engineering for Ford Steve von Foerster, whose neighbor called the cops after one particularly epic morning startup. Going forward, all the GTs (with the exhaust option) get a "quiet" mode for street driving AND a “Good Neighbor” mode, turning down the 460-hp V8's volume to a dull roar on startup.

Good Neighbor mode can be scheduled for certain times of the day; 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. sounds good to us. A study by Ranker.com found that “loud engine revving ranks among the most annoying noises neighbors make, alongside other common nuisances including lawn mowers, power tools, barking dogs and band practice.”

While I was spending most of yesterday under my Mustang, my wife walked 50 yards to the mailbox and came back stating that there were two other guys in their garages working on their cars in general, and Mustangs in particular. lol.

On a more serious note, I will probably head over to Cars and Coffee around 7:30AM Saturday morning. I'm contemplating pushing the car out of the garage, which is flat. My driveway and street have a nice decline so I could probably roll all the way out of the neighborhood before I crank the beast.

Would it be bad form to wake up my wife and ask her to give me a "little" nudge out of the garage?
