any chance that the 2nd from the top will wind up with stag or horn handles? probably would look good with micarta or brass pins.

That one is spoken for. Spalted maple scales with black pins and a small section of the butt steel exposed.

That’s part of it, as well as reducing overall weight. In addition the holes also act as epoxy bridging joining both sides of the handle. I use micarta liners with drilled hole patterns between the scale and the knife handle. I think it makes a very secure epoxy glue up.
