This forester came in with a (surprise) blown headgasket…..owners not going to fix it. Thought about buying it myself and swapping in jdm sti motor….then I thought about all the $$ I’ve wasted over the years on cars and changed my mind.

How much is the car and how much is a swap or to fix it?

Same question as @HMP I'm not up to doing the work but would be interested to see what it would cost to fix.

Didn’t look much into swap cost as I’ve got too many costly things going on at the moment and not enough $$ as usual. The car could probably be had pretty cheap. I’ll find out as soon as I can. (And we don’t do Subaru hg’s at the shop…too risky without tearing it completely down to surface the deck.) I’m sure we quoted a reman longblock)

I had head gaskets, timing belt, power steering pump, spark plugs and plug wires done at Duckworths Automotive on Statesville Ave for around $2100.00. They specialize in Subarus.

Rallitek was running 15% off for Black Friday so I bought the heavy duty adjustable arms package with their front end links. Made it easy to set the alignment with the lift springs and larger tires of my current setup. Couldn’t get better pictures after driving in the snow this morning, excellent traction as always.
New parts are blue.

I’ll post some pictures once I get my full size spare wheel delivered. I’ll need to get it powder coated and then figure out what size I can get to fit and still have a flat floor in the trunk.

I doubt I can get a 235/65r17 in the space even with deflating the tire (plan on carrying a portable inflator) and will probably have to go with a size smaller at 225/65r17 if I want the spare to fit in the trunk.

Really want to avoid having the spare either on a hitch, roof, or taking up cargo space.

Trying to fit a 235/65r17 spare and it is a not going to fit even with trimming and deflating the tire. I’ve read that this size will fit in the 6th gen outbacks that come with a full size spare from the factory.

Looks like I am stuck with 225/65r17. The 3/5” smaller circumference with deflation should be able to fit.

Want to add, I’m not sure if it is the alignment or the stiffer rear suspension parts but I have noticed an acceleration improvement. The power is delivered to the wheels quicker than before. There is no power delivery delay is the best way to describe which is surprising considering the tire is oversized and an all terrain type.

As for the spare, I think I am just going to get a size smaller at 225/60/r17. It should fit and will still be better than the spare. If down the road I go larger I will do a full size spare mounted to the roof and a larger lift (2”spacers).

Well I can’t get the spare to fit. It’ll fit width wise but there is a lip at the back of the well that I just can’t get past. The only option would be to hammer it out and I’m not sure I want to do that.

Also, the powder coating place did a piss poor job. Really surprised because I went to the same place a year and a half ago and was pleased with the results. Sorta think they changed ownership because it was not a very good experience from start to finish.
