Range time has been at a premium for the last 18 months. I am ashamed to admit how little I’ve gotten the kiddos out to shoot. This evening, I was able to take my youngest boy out for a couple hours with our CZ Scorpion, the CZ P-01 I picked up at the Raleigh show last weekend, and some Outdoor Dynamics blue bullet 9mm I got from @Butter at a couple different shows.

We shot several hundred rounds of both 125- and 147-grain loads. My cans are buried due to an ongoing office reorganization, so we shot unsuppressed.

I was very impressed with the ammo. Accuracy was excellent. We were shooting steel - an Odin’s Eye, half IDPA silhouette, and a full IDPA silhouette. There were also a few bowling pins on the ground at the berm that got some attention. Range was 25 yards. It was easy to hit whatever we wanted with the Scorpion, including double and triple taps. The P-01 took more concentration to shoot well, especially as the light faded and the sights got harder to see. The point of impact actually didn’t change much between loads with the Scorpion, though it was very noticeable with the P-01.

The only failures we had were a few with the P-01 and it became obvious they were magazine related. One of the mags was engaging the slide stop before the mag was empty. Not the ammo’s fault at all. We took some Winchester NATO loads along as a control and it did it with them, too. Other than that, feeding, extracting, and ejecting were perfect.

I forgot to get a picture of a loaded mag, but the blue bullets look really cool. I know that has nothing to do with performance, but I like the aesthetics.

Pic below is my young Indiana Jones (if you have met him at shows, you understand the nickname) with the Scorpion, brass in the air. He sure went through the ammo. 9mm is the new plinking round in our house. Sure was cheaper when the kids shot only .22 LR.

How happy does he get when something needs cutting?

In my house, the boys fight over who gets to cut something when it needs it. If a package comes in the mail, three knives are out and handed to me before I can get to mine.
