I just picked this one up. 1991 (KB) P228. Previous owner advised It was sent back to Sig for refurbishing (SSP) and then sent out for a refinish to CCR. I was informed of all this and decided it would make a great shooter. That's still the plan but dang it looks great too! I do plan to change out the trigger for a smooth face one, which I have but other than that I am very pleased with it. Thanks AH. Bonus 3 zipper back mags also refinished.

Nice looks like they re-created the GOTM Tutone Sig P228. I cut my teeth on a P228. Still have 2 of them. To this day it is still my favorite Sig.

Nice. Those classic Sig’s are built like a tank and good shooters. I have a P229–1 two tone with the SRT that is my favorite pistol to shoot. I’d bet the smaller grip dimensions on a P228 might fit my delicate mitts even better.

I have a P229 also and yes the grip does seem slimmer.

I've heard many shooters over the years say that the 228 was their favorite. I have two or three and would probably agree. I'm a bit odd in that I feel the bulk of the 229 over the 228, similar to the S&W L frame bulkier to the K's.

The P229 was designed for the 40 S&W and .357 Sig rounds. They made the frame slightly wider IIRC. The 9mm was an economy of scale add on and a way to have a P228 like offering with a stainless steel milled slide vs a carbon steel folded slide.

It was the start of the end of the folded slide at Sig. As the tooling when out of date for the P226/P220/P228 etc they were all converted to stainless slides.

If you hold and shoot a P228 and P229 back to back you can feel a slight difference in weight and how they feel in the hand. I often find it’s a matter of preference based on which one you started on and or shot the most.
