Too bad the folks did not visit the LGS and sell them on consignment or outright.

The church collected 102 handguns and 26 rifles, two were AR type.

"We've gotten more assault weapons off the street in less than 40 minutes than we would have imagined," Church of the Holy Cross Rev. Torrey Johnson told WTAE. "And we want to continue to get the efforts going if we can, but we can't right now because we don't have the money."

Assault weapons indeed.

You could walk into a church with that single-shot .410 and maybe kill one person if you shot them in the head from close range. But then you would get shot by every person in the church, and probably twice by a few.

They’re useful idiots, and don’t have a clue what the word apostle means.
I’ll bet $ not one assault weapon showed up.

“It's very overwhelming but it actually is quite apropos for us because we were doing this to honor Dr. King, who we consider the apostle of nonviolence," Wilson said.
"We didn't realize that in Virginia they would be marching today," she said, referencing a gun rights rally in Richmond on Monday. "We see that as dishonoring his legacy because they're marching on this holiday representing him. It's the total opposite of what we're trying to do today."
Dishonoring his legacy? How about the young girls that got raped/abused/used because of him being revered?
His birthday is not a holy day, definition of holiday. He did and said some great things, he was also an abusive Marxist.

from the looks of that picture, most of those would have a hard time fetching 100 on the open market.
that pump shotgun could do it, but only if it's an actual mossberg. the lower end maverick might not.

Yes, a peaceful march against government abuses dishonors his legacy

What kind of sloped foreheaded knuckle dragging dimwit gives up a purpose built scoped hunting rifle for $50 or $100 ??? Maybe if it were stolen, I could see that.

Nice neighborhood.

If I hear of one by me I have a length of gas pipe 18" long and a 2x4. Going to get me $50!
Or we could do that a few times, get some free money, then set up a table across the street to offer $100 for the good stuff, using the free money!

Yoooooo can CFF host a buy back program!?

while these mostly drum up broken or Sat. Night special garbage, they very often produce multiple collector grade weapons and for $50!

Will happily take some guns off the street. And the difference of our model, is we won’t just get hosed, because we know if the guns are functional.

CFF, please do, please dooo

I have always wondered about the "how" of these 'buy back' events.

Is there an FFL on site to do the transfers? Are background checks done on the Church members handing over the cash? Does the church take ownership, even for a moment?

IOW, what laws are they breaking?

Based on the guns being zip tied and the odds of anyone at the church knowing about guns; I'm guessing they go straight into the possession of LE. Whatever Org is just the conduit for the money. Meaning they either avoid the law, or it's ignored. Because who is going to put a stop to this in an area that wants guns gone anyway? LE can chalk it up to voluntarily forfeited property.

wonder how many of those .22s and other hunting rifles were stolen from Granpa's closet so a methhead could get $50

A better question would be, how many of the guns taken in had the serial numbers run to see if they were stolen, and if found to be stolen, returned to the rightful owners.

If it is a no-questions-asked buyback, could they charge a person for bringing in a stolen firearm? Can a police department or even a judge give blanket amnesty for felonies uncovered by this event?

Was any one ever charge in "Fast and furious" (guns to Mexican cartels not the movie)?

All ones im aware of are 'no questions asked'....talk about a gun show loophole :D that makes me think, would the laws those areas propose make buy backs illegal? is NY et al breaking law when the do this? hmmmm

Most gun buy backs, in my experience, have a sort of amnesty style reception. The police agree not to check for stolen stuff if sheep are willing to be shorn.

I understand the "no questions asked" but that does not remove the responsibility to check and see if they are stolen and to insure their return to rightful owners.

I don't like the "no questions asked" because that means unless they check before they destroy they could be destroying a piece of evidence in a crime.

That would mean the police actually care.

There was an episode of blue bloods on it.
it was probably one of their worst episodes :)

I musta missed that one. Don't happen to know the episode # do you? I will check it out when I get the chance.

On top of that with all the squawking lately about how "no one is above the law" a buy back asks no questions and possibly buys stolen firearms. Someone needs to close the buy back loop hole.

The guns were not taken off the streets but form the bedroom closets.
