Wow, is there anything PSA can't do??

(In before "make an MP5 har har".)

edit - I know PSA products have teething troubles, but they are cranking out new and different products at a rate that makes you wonder what the other manufacturers (except for maybe Ruger) are doing with all their free time.

They started teasing the bufferless truck gun at SHOT last year. I did see them post sometime in the last month or so we’d see more details at SHOT this year.

Looks pretty awesome, better than the other bufferless AR based designs I’ve seen. The fact that it doesn’t require a special lower is really nice. Curious about price point, hopefully under $700, ideally closer to $500.

They also posted that’ll it’ll be offered in 5.56 and 300BLK.

First YHM, now PSA. These guys are trying to steal from my Twin Turbo fund for my truck! Decisions decisions...

Can’t open the link to FB. What’s the difference in this one and the Faxon upper that’s been out for years? Likely priced better from PSA...is one for sure. Faxon can also do caliber changes.

it almost feels like Kel Tec circa 2010, though a bit less innovative/R&D and more market demand gap filling. But hey, I'm always in favor of a company willing to pump out different products since its few and far between

But they have made an MP5...

Yes, we know about the MP5. It was announced two years ago and they still haven't released it.
Watch the video. The PSA guy says Lead Star took over the development. PSA must not have had the internal man power or capabilities, so they got smart and found someone who could. Nothing wrong with that, it's just flat out good business.

And if you want to start talking about companies announcing products and then taking forever to release them, LWRC says hi with their SMG.

Saw another JAKL interview today, by TFB, and the JAKL designer confirmed that it will be released in 7.5” 300BLK first, followed shortly thereafter with 10.5” 5.56. He said the long stroke piston design is based off of an AK, no surprise there. He also said that the barrel is permanently threaded and loctited into the receiver and that you’d damage the the gun by trying to remove it.

He said that pricing should be 800-900 for a complete pistol and about half that for just the upper when they’re sold separately later on.

So $500 for the complete upper? That's crazy if so. Unless it doesn't work, I don't see how anyone can argue with what PSA is doing to change the game.

Yeah...at $500 for an upper, I'm in.

Agreed, I’m all in for an upper at $500. I also like that AK triangle folder brace so I may be in for a complete pistol.

Help me out.......what is the big deal with the JAKL? Possibly not having to tweak the buffer system?

Bingo.

Switching from Suppressed to UnSuppressed is (can be) a major PIA between adjusting a gas block and swapping out buffers and springs.

And, for some the attraction will be not having a buffer system at all in the receiver extension (buffer tube), making folding or non-existent stocks stupidly simple.

I get the idea that its not ready......... I would much rather them postpone or cancel the release instead of releasing a piece of junk and let the customers deal with it like some automotive manufacturers do. I remember seeing some MP5 clones that were hit or miss and were not cheap......

Gotcha! Unfortunately i have experienced those problems!

I think the fact that it works on any milspec lower is the bigger deal. It's a piston bufferless AR which makes it as close to a 5.56 AK that takes regular STANAG mags as you can possibly get without carrier rock :D

Biggest thing to me is 1: it can fire folded and 2: the fact that it can go on a standard AR pistol lower and folds means it can legally be concealed within arm's length in your vehicle as a pistol (and then be deployed and fired folded).

Plus easy gas adjustment with the can.

For me it’s...

Folding/bufferless
Uses standard AR lower
Is a pistol
AR controls
3 setting gas, great suppressor host
300BLK
PSA pricing

And to think I was holding out for a used sit rattler 300blk. For the money I’m saving I’ll get a few more psa items instead.

...........PSA and 300 Blackout........ All i see is 1-8 twist which may not work with some of the longer subsonic bullets. The 8 inch barrel......im just not sold on. I know 300bo typically uses a magnum handgun powder which should help with a shorter barrel....but i would rather it be 10-12 inches. The muzzle blast/noise can be a little much when the barrel gets too short.

One more thing..........and it may just be a coincidence or some other factor......but piston driven rifles dont seem to be as quiet as di rifles.

They look really good, I’m still a patiently waiting buyer.
I hope they can get this thing to market before the Dems are able to force through their BS.

JAKL now in production…

This one has been tough, doing development during the last 18 months has been almost impossible. Finding materials for production was bad enough, some lead times for restocks for metals have gone to 20 months with 200 percent price increases. Some materials that were plentiful and regularly used came back as no quotes and unavailable for any lead time as suppliers focused on only a few mixes/configurations of metals. Doing development in a time like this is tough as you can’t even be sure you can get the raw materials after you finalize the design. You can also not estimate a cost to produce in an environment like that either.

However, even with these difficulties and others during the last two years we are very proud of the final design. We know that you will be as well. It will be revealed at the shot show and I can’t wait for your feedback.

As a industry, we do not have that many skilled designers for firearms.

Sadly just in time for the braced pistol ban 😭
