It is not a DIY but I do have a question about pavers.

I am going to have my patio changed to pavers. Right now it is 2 concrete slabs totaling 25 by 18.

I know nothing about pavers or their cost.

What should I be looking for when talking to different companies?
What is an average cost of pavers and installation? Again, the patio right now is 25 X 18.

Thickness of pavers is big and base or prep work the installation company will be putting in first so that it will not settle and be uneven. Intrested to hear others thoughts as well since i have been considering doing one. If you plan to drive over it the thicker pavers and base are better from research I have found.

I’ve been on job sites and watched it done different ways. The half ass guys who low bid just pour sand and set pavers. My friend is an outdoor pro catering to high end clients. He levels the entire area, puts crusher dust down and the leveling sand. Then has a pounding machine. The base is the important part to lasting with no issue.

I bought a cement mixer and plan to pour a walkway in colors. Problem is this method is more expensive then one would think. Color additive is very expensive for dark colors. I may go your route. I just did my 1100 sqft deck with top grade Lowe’s wood. What a joke. Now I know why the independent building supply wood was $3 more a board. Top choice at Lowes was horrible after a year. Wasted $3000 and two weeks of my life.

I just did a contract with a local guy and have no idea if the price was good or not. He quoted $11 per sq. foot. He is going to level the ground, put crush down and then sand. Going to slope the angle away from the house. He is also charging $2 per sq. foot to take out the patio.

crushed base and 1" setting sand. if there is a chance of bad soil, put down a structural fabric that will help with any settlement.
