Butt stock screw is at the rear of the trigger guard. Forearm pops off as you said.The butt stock will be held in place by a through bolt and the forearm will pop right off if attacked from the front.
Don't worry, I am purty good at it.Please don't go all Bubba on a refinish, gentle and easy slow is the key.....

Wipe it off.
Dry.
