Is any one here familiar with the pawpaw fruit. I read an article about them years ago and have wanted to try some. Supposed to be a tropical tasting fruit native to NC. The only problem I have is finding some. I've never seen them in the wild and have been checking local markets. If I like them enough I may try to plant a few trees to have a supply in the future.

I had a couple growing in my lower field at the creek. Had to research to find out what they were when they bearing fruit. Now I know all about the Paw-Paw patch my granddad used to sing about. They were good, but the trees were very soft wood. I may have destroyed them all enlarging the field edge. Have to check next time I am down there.

Pawpaws do grow wild here in nc my cousin has one in the woods in front of his house. They should be getting ripe in a month. Fact check that I could be wrong. They do taste like a banana and somthing crossed. I'm going to plant a few with my peach trees.

I always saw them growing on creek banks. The mushy texture was nasty to me.

I found some at a place called Chatham market place in pittsboro. It is an organic and local kinda place. Nice folks in there today and I was able to get 6 pawpaws to try. I liked them, different than anything I've ever had. Mushy and sweet, agree with the cross between an apple and banana. If any one is interested they said their delivery comes on Tuesday, and I will probably have a few left over tomorrow in Raleigh if anyone wants to try them.
